I'll see your Double Dave's and raise you Gumby's pepperoni rolls in Austin. Like a fist-sized pig-in-a-blanket but with mozarella. Probably not any better, but I don't think I ever went to Double Daves.
Can't believe all the hate for Papa John's because they're my favorite major pizza place. Pizza Inn is the worst.
So true. I'm trying to watch the weight and when the kids mention that they want to go, I'm saying no for 2 reasons. Their pizza is not that good and their deserts are so gooood,
I actually think CiCi's is decent if you go in with the right mindset. I know this might invalidate any comment I make bashing other pizza chains, but who cares? This is what I always do when I go to CiCi's: Ask to order a pizza they don't normally stock on their Buffet. For me, it is Pepperoni and Pineapple. This way, they cook it, bring it right to my table, and I don't have to worry about any grubby kid hands being all over my pizza before I eat it. It's fresh and they are happy to do it. My favorite item at CiCi's are those disgusting looking little cheese "sticks" or squares, or whatever you want to call them. I dip those in some ranch dressing and they're delicious. Unfortunately they go pretty quick when they stick 'em out on the buffet. If you just get water, it's a pretty decent deal. When I was in undergrad, the CiCi's had a student discount where you got the buffet and soda for 5 dollars w/tax included. I loved that. Overall, my favorite national pizza chain is probably Pizza Hut -- I'll go with their deep dish pepperoni. Normally, I order from a local chain in Arkansas called Eureka Pizza that is real solid. They have these $6 dollar large Pepperoni pizzas that you can pick up at any time that are great for the price. One thing I've learned about Pizza is it is a helluva lot more affordable when you're a college student. Nearly every place in town will give you a huge discount when you're a student. For example, at the local Pizza Hut and Papa John's, they offer large one topping pizzas for $6.99 w/student ID. I don't know what I'm going to do when I finally graduate. I'll just have to keep the ID and see if I can convince them that I'm still in school.
PJ's is the only company genuine pushing their Online Ordering service in as many markets as possible. As a lazy fat person, I consider that a big extra.
At every single CiCi's I've gone too, I have had to go to the cashier to ask for another soda cup, because the busboy(actually usually a female) clears my table while I'm getting seconds.
I've had similar experiences. They have very aggressive bussers. I try to do something to make sure they leave my drink alone or just take it w/me. You get what you pay for as far as service goes, I suppose. It's not like we're tipping when we go to CiCi's.
Best chain pizza I've eaten is from Imo's when I was in St. Louis. They're only found in the midwest just like In and Out is only in the west coast.
wow, didn't think everyone would turn into such pizza snobs here. When I get hungry and don't have food around...and don't feel like leaving cause I'm lazy.. I think the stuff is pretty decent. I think Papa Johns is solid, and I like Dominos thin crust 2nd. (but yes, Double Dave's pepperoni rolls do kick ass...too bad they're not out here)
anyway, back on dessert.. no, i didn't expect the most spectacular dessert ever or anything. But I did expect something that wasn't a big cardboard box with crappy sugar on it. I mean, honestly...after tasting this, I can't understand how this made it through labs and taste tests and whatnot onto market. There can't be a single person out there who would reorder this thing. Which means it ultimately will lose money.
Double Dave's is terrific. When I want to eat good pizza, I order DD's. When it's just a quick fix, Pizza Hut. Too bad the PH's in China are gross. I can only eat 1-2 slices before I feel like I want to hurl. Forgot to mention California Pizza something. Expensive, but better than the major chains.
Domino's pizza are the worst ever and I tried them at many different places. They're usually dried up, with very little meat. Pizza hut is much better, not too wet(pappa john) and not too dry...just about right. Smaller chain shop pizza are the best like Aurelios or Rosatti's. They always pack up on the sauce/meat...maybe a little too much. FOr a quick bite, nothing beats Little Cesear's, 5 buc for a large and its always hot and ready for you.
Dude, those things are absolutely disgusting. Just purchase a good frozen pizza, it will probably be a little cheaper and it will be a lot better.
Lookin for sauce/meat...just specify in your online order for Dominos or Papa Johns (and prob Pizza Hut too--haven't tried)...extra meat, extra sauce. They'll do it..
What's with all these people who are CiCi's experts? Have some self respect. All the major delivery chains are about the same to me. The wings at Pizza Hut or Dominos (I forget) are really, really nasty. Smelt like piss. Late Nite Pie has the worst pizza in town. If you're bombed out of your mind at 2:30 a.m. and you're still able to recognize disgusting pizza, then, yeah, it's bad.
