JVG: "See we watch a replay in slow motion and disagree. Just shows you how difficult an officials job really is."

Jon Barry: "O know you like them lol."

i'm really enjoying the game. they're really funny. Jeff is an encyclopedia of basketball knowledge, and i like how he doesn't overcomment.

In all honesty, I think Jon Barry is right, JVG is an amazing basketball mind.

    I truly believe that.

I just happen to believe that part of a being a good coach is to be a motivator, and I believe this is where JVG fails, I think he is a de-motivator.

His demeanor, and angst seems to flow to the team and they tighten up.

This is one my biggest issues with JVG, I just don't think he gets players motivated, at least that is how I see it.

That is why they uniformly hate him, and by "hate", I mean "say he's the best coach they've ever had."

I think a lot of players don't need that motivation, Jon Barry is probably one of those players.

But this Rockets team is full of players who need motivation.

And to be fair, not every player that has played for JVG likes him.

So, now it's demeanor that makes a good basketball coach? Rick Adelman is not going to be your rah-rah sis-boom-bah guy to lead the Rockets to victory. If anything he has just as sour a disposition as Van Gundy.

Most the his players know him to be a good motivator. He's a straight shooter who gives honest answers. It's just like Simon Cowell on American Idol, you either love him or hate him

Good analogy, some people respond to that, while others don't.

I wonder if Rick is all that much of an upgrade, I actually think it is more of a lateral move.

I do think it will benefit some players, and maybe that is enough, only time will tell I guess.

It's posts like this that make me appreciate this thread. Don't ever back down from the other people on this board. A lot of them think they have a point, but in reality offer no particular insight. Keep it up SamFisher.

And I agree with 100% that the Rockets could have handled the firing a lot more professionally. Whether Adelman or whomever will be a better coach for the Rockets than JVG is up for debate, but what is not debatable is that JVG deserved a better send-off, no matter what business he works in.

Interestingly enough, Rick Adelman coached Jon Barry on two separate occasions -- once with Sacramento, and once with Golden State in 1995-1996. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

samfisher you've fought the good fight, it's too bad logic lost in the end.

on your list you could even say francis really wasn't a malcontent.

I wonder who's going to do the Finals. It'll either be Breen-Barry-JVG or Tirico-Hubie.

Then who would you hire? There aren't many coaches better than JVG or Adelman.

It's funny to see JVG so enthusiastic when commentating a game. Hear him scream when nash made that in the air, behind the back pass to stoudamire? He was screaming just like a regular fan. If that happened while he was coaching, he wouldn't bat an eye and would just have the same expressionless look on his face while on the sidelines.
