I just read the article. Some damn telling comments that really paint a poor picture of Rockets management. To be honest, I have never heard good things about working for the Rockets, this just confirms that their poor handling of situations extends to all levels.

Yes, Van Gundy played a game by calling them out when he knew it was done, but they did themselves no favors. I wouldn't have taken the consultant job either. He'll land on his feet after a year in the broadcasting booth. I just hope he doesn't get to pull a Nelson and yell Ha Ha at Les.

For the first time since Rudy has been gone, I actually agree with EDC. Le$ is a b****.

Very classy interview. Even though I think it is time for a change, JVG's interview here was very classy and I have nothing bad to say about the guy.

JVG had a monstruously big ego, but he did try hard. He did the best he could with the limited subset of JVG guys he was able to acquire.

I like him a lot as a commentator.

I still think he would be a perhaps even brilliant college coach. He could play off his pro experience for recruiting and hecould dismiss players mid semester. So no Bonzi type fiascos. It is true that like Bobby Knight he could wear on the Larry Byrd and Barkley type talents, but the college guys don't generally have the personal resources of the pro players so they are more easily malleable.

    Sincerely, best of luck, JVG.

JVG is gone. It's time to move forward. I enjoyed his 4 years with the Rockets and their accomplishments during that time. We were the 5th best team in the NBA at the end of the regular season. Did he lead us past the 1st round? NO! Hence the firing. I wish him well in the future-except for when he coaches against us.

JVG did a good job in his tenure but it was time for a change after this year's debacle. It still doesn't change the fact that we have no one on this team but Yao and Mcgrady.

I agreed it was time for a change. But i m just so disappointed at the rockets organization for handling this situation badly. Does les really know anything about basketball? Run and gun? To me, Les is only worrying about his business. We have a dominant center and they want to change him to Brad Miller or Jermaine O Neal?

Unless they draft a gem in the coming draft or magically pull off a great deal, seriously i dont think rockets will do much in the next 3 years!

I can't say I enjoyed the time that much as usual with JVG, though I always enjoy the Rockets. I can honestly say that I could enjoy a 45 win season with a first round exit more with Rudy, for instance.

Of course, Rudy would have had the sense to rest Yao and Tracy and Battier and even Allston more for the playoffs. Rudy would not have used Motumbo and the vets on the final day to move down a couple of slots in the last draft either.

Oh well, it was still enjoyable to watch the Rockets with JVG-- or at the minimum always enjoyabe be a know-it-all Sunday morning coach, GM etc. like some of us do. ;)

Unless the next coach gets the Rockets to the next level....then you will be forgotten.

I don't feel sad, cause he's one of the main reasons the rockets still aren't playing right now.

There were a lot of things wrong with this club. Jeff wasn't the biggest but I guess when you expect a coach to take a team without a one guard, a four, and no bench to the promised land you're not going to live up to those kinds of expectations.

The only thing that will get this team the talent it needs to compete on a level above moribund mediocrity is money. Les appears really stubborn about the tax threshold but IMO he's going to have to exceed that if this team is going to compete seriously.

No. I'm having a glass of wine. I hope I'm not totally losing it.

On the last day of the season before last JVG played Motumbo and the vets to beat up Denver?, which caused our draft pick to sink a few slots.

I somehow view this season as still going on even though the Rockets aren't playing more and JVG has been let go.

Whether you agree or disagree with the firing of Jeff Van Gundy, the manner with which it was handled by the owner (Alexander) and GM (Morey) was absolutely classless and inexcusable. To offer the job to another person before it officially becomes available and even worse -- before notifying the current coach of a decision as to his status as head coach -- is something straight out of Office Space.

Good luck, Coach Van Gundy and many thanks for your tireless efforts as head coach of the Rockets. Some smart organization that wants to get the most out of its roster of NBA players will hire you. About the only good thing from this disgraceful episode is ESPN finally has a credible NBA analyst.
