Chuck was undrafted. As far as the contract, I am not sure what it was considered since he had a temp contract for the end of the 05-06 season and this year's contract was a one year unrestricted... I think.
Chuck Hayes isn't a rotational player on any other team in the NBA let alone a starter. Bench? He needs to be salary matching material for a Battier and/or Alston trade.
thanks for the correction. something went off in my head even as I was typing second round pick but i ignored it
with the new coach there is no way deke will retire, we might trade hayes or howard...either way I hope it plays out well for the club hayes should still get his minutes, I seriously don't think that Adelman would change the whole scheme just like that
Sometimes I wonder if you watch the games at all. Then you make posts like these and it takes away any doubt.
I don't understand the point of this thread. Who's going to be the starter? Juwan?! Unless the Rockets get a quality PF in the draft or sign someone decent, Chuck should still be the starter. He is a better defender than Juwan and gets more rebounds. He is limited offensively, but unless Juwan is hitting jumpers he's just as bad and he's only get to worse with age.
If Adelman institutes an offense with lots of cuts, I think Chuck has a great chance to stick on the team. He moves extremely well without the ball (better than just about anyone else on the team), which is partly why McGrady was able to create so many easy layups for him.
That is the amazing thing. People think new coach = new starting power forward and point guard. How they think we will magically conjure up these 2 starters is anyone's guess, but apparently JVG was imposing a salary cap that the new coach won't have to work with.
Adelman asked for and got Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who is just the rich man's Juwan Howard. Unless there's a new PF, Juwan will start for Adelman.
Agreed. Great, we've got a new coach. But we still need an upgrade at pg and pf, that hasn't changed a bit.
true...and yet he started for the rockets. says a lot about how this team did a lot with very little.
chuck is a gem. any coach would love to have him on this team. i don't like this misconception that adleman will onyl want shooters...just like JVG only wanted defenders... last time i checked JVG was asking for more shooters/scorers and adleman started a SG (christie) who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn! adleman is an all around great coach who knows the importance of balance.
