Attention Everybody that's proposing all these trades to teams for their studs for our crap. WE have no trade assets. 1. We do not have any position where we are overflowing with talent and that we can afford to trade talent for at another position. 2. We do not have any big expiring contracts that we can trade, Sura's contract is only like half the MLE. 3. We do not have any young talent that is being held back that other teams will take a chance on. Teams pretty much know what they will get with luther head, and luther is pretty much a poor man's troy hudson, how much trade value do you think he has? Spanoulis might have some trade value, depending how badly a team wants to take a chance on a euro pg that is turnover prone. Here's the thing, to everybody that thinks teams will somehow overpay for players just cos they are young, teams only will trade for young talent if they are being held back by SUPERSTAR players at their position. e.g. Indiana traded for JO because he was being held back by Rasheed and Sabonis. Orlando traded for Milicic cos he was held back by Ben & Rasheed. Orlando took a chance on TMAC cos he was playing behind Vince Carter. Milsap is held back by Boozer, Amir Johnson is being held back by Rasheed, Chris Webber, Mcdyess, Dale Davis. On our team, our "young talent" Spanoulis and JL3 is being held back Rafer alston, and Steve Novak is being held back by Chuck Hayes. 3. Our draft picks will be in the late 1st round for the forseeable future, and late 1st round picks are not that valuable. No one has ever traded a substantial player for a late 1st round pick. The ONLY WAYs to improve the team is to do the following. 1. Take a chance on a risk, either an injury risk like K-mART or a character risk on a RON ARTEST. 2. Use the full MLE every single year and be prepared to pay luxury tax. 3. Hope that you can draft a stud in the late 1st round. There is no way that the rockets can do any trading for legit starters because the rockets have NO trade assets.
its not as grim as it sounds. yes, trading would be tough, but there're usually very few significant trades in this league anyways. I think its possible to get some useful piece such as mike james with sura's expiring contract.
there are ways to make trades that benefit your team. i dont say this too often but this is not the greatest idea for a thread. but you have a right to your opinion.
Please get off the VSpan and Novak BS. It got old months ago. These guys were not held back by anything other than their inability to play basketball at the NBA level.
Yes to make a trade: Battier or Yao would have to go and probably packaged with Jho + Sura contract. So likelyhood no trade unless its a superstar for superstar trade.
One more way, exploiting our unknown commodity, if both of our stars are able to be at court, we are an almost locked playoff team, i don't see any insanity giving our young players like V-Span or the rookie player 10-15 minutes a game.
Some truth in what the TC said but Rockets can steal make decent trades perhaps not for big names but some lesser known players can be dealt for. Also agree that the best chance to win would be to take a risk at some point with someone like Ron Artest who could payoff big time if handled properly. However KMart is too big of a risk, I mean his contract is huge and 4 years 60 million is too much and we could get stuck with him for a long time to come. Artest on the other hand is only 2 years at 7-8 mil a year exact same contract as Juwan Howard so I'm willing to swap them with pleasure if Kings like.
From Swift to Wells, those "steals" we have hailed were all proved as stinking ones. Be careful when you gamble again. This league did have very few "steals", but Rox seems not have been good at grasping it in the past.
Yao Ming,Tracy Mc Grady, Battier, Alston, Hayes, Mutombo, Head, Bonzi, V Span etc. to name but a few who can be traded and Draft Picks
I love you. Seriously dude, that is exactly what I've been saying. Subtraction does not lead to addition, we need to fill a hole, not cut a new one.
you're thinking about using our guys to trade for superstars. if thats the case then no, we don't have enough tradable assets. however if you're looking to add real scoring punch from the bench, then we have enough to add a piece or two. sura + draft pick = mike james sura + pick + howard + lucas = mobley (clipps save money on this deal) same package as above = troy murphy head + snyder = sean may same as above = ike diogu same as above + sura = maggetty rafer + howard + sura + lucas + 2 picks = bibby? it's possible if... miller + smith + 2 picks = iverson miller is better than rafer and smiths ending contract is larger but iverson is a superstar and bibby is just a borderline allstar who makes $14M a year. i say its a decent offer.
Doable as a salary dump for the timberwolves, probably the only trade that is doable. Clips will laugh in morey's face, they can get much more trade value out of mobley. Clips do not need to dump money, they are no where near luxury tax. Teams that need a shooter, say Denver will be able to offer much more than rockets if mobley ever comes on the market. Indy will jump on that deal, Troy murphy is no the same player as he was 2 seasons ago, he is substantially heavier(read: weight problem), his rebounding has gone down the toilet, he also has chronic injury problem. Indy will dump him for expiring at this point. Could he return to his previous form given a fresh start? possible, but he is a big question mark as of right now. Charlotte laughs in our face, they have absolutely no need for head or snyder, they have gerald wallace which is what the best case scenario for snyder will become. Sean May when healthy is a legit starting center in this league, if he ever becomes trade bait, he will bring a legit piece since someone who needs a STARTING center will take a chance on him, like Dallas. Are you crazy? Diogu is more untoucheable than JO at this point. Why do you think Larry Bird took on the Dunmurphy sisters contracts? They key to that GS trade was Diogu, Indy are real high on him and when they trade JO this summer, they want to have a real look at Diogu starting next year. So the clippers trade their starting SF for 2 players that would be lucky to crack their 8 man rotation? Their needs are at PG, if they ever trade Maggette, they would want a PG in return since they are getting down on shaun livingston. If they ever want to move bibby, they will get packages that are way better than that, the lakers e.g. will give them kwame brown + 2 1st round picks + jordan farmer, if they ever want to move bibby, rockets have NO expiring contracts, NO decent young players, NO stockpiled 1st round picks, i.e. NO trade assets. The trades above are exactly the type of unrealistic trades that the rockets will NEVER be able to do because they have NO trade assets.
