Whatever. That isn't the point. I let JVG go about 3-4 days after the season ended. I said the pause was a charade and both sides need to just go ahead issue their public statement. I just want a snap poll of the forum since Adelman is likely the guy.
i think both coaches are about on the same level. the big difference is, though, that the current roster fits jvg's coaching style MUCH better than adelman's. coaching wasn't the rockets issue. talent and matchups was. so unless we change the current team's identity with some major trades we would be far better off with jvg. and the way the management has talked about the rockets issues in the media it seems that only roster tweaks are in the making and it will be a mistake to hire adelman. i voted for jvg.
If Adelman can bring in someone like Bibby, then I guess I'm fine with him. Fixing the roster is more important than fixing the coaching staff.
I would have to agree with the sentiment that this is the right time for a change in philosophy. I harbor no grudges towards the Gundy era, and am a little sad to see him go. He has certainly teased us on numerous occassions...but was never able to turn the corner on becoming a team considered a perennial contender no matter how close it appeared we were to the cusp of this... The unfortunate part of the whole matter is you have to wonder how things might have turned out had this team not been hexed with a plague of injuries the past two seasons. Aside from Yao and T-Mac, even players like Sura or Jon Barry are players that make you ask yourself "what if.." In any case, I would like to wish JVG good luck on his future endeavors (if the writing on the wall stands to be true) and also bid a warm welcome to Rick Adelman (if the powers that be so choose him as successor)
Agreed. If we bring in Adelman, we also need to bring in his type of players. If we keep Gundy, we need to upgrade a few roster spots.
This must be the Coach Poll Month. I think I have voted on 3-4 different Gundy ones already in last 2 weeks.
I'm ambivalent on Adelman. What I want to see is some personnel changes. Like everyone else, I want to see an upgrade at the 1 and the 4. I want athletic guys who can score at these positions. We need a 3rd scoring option. And I'd like to see Juwan's contract gone. If we could ge those things, I'd be thrilled. To me, that's more important than the coaching change. If we had those things, the team would be set with JVG as coach or Adelman, or whoever.
We need a coach who appreciate athletic players that you have to spend time with and coach. There are options out there like Mo Williams a top flight point guard and athletic 6'8" wing men (all we need is 2). I prefer March Ivaronni and any other up and coming young assistance. I like Mike Kryszeki (sp ck) from Duke or Billy Donnovan.
My choice would be Ivaroni and Elie - fresh and with a little Rockets tradition + revamped Roster of Course!!
that would mean 2 to 3 years without a championship title, possible without Yaor or TMac I don't know, Houston needs to win it the next 2 seasons
I like defense. I voted Van Gundy. He may not be the best possible candidate, but he's pretty good, and he's certainly better than Adelman.
