If the Rockets ran the Triangle Offense it would spread the floor and give scoring opportunities from everywhere. T-Mac could go off and be NBA scoring champion again. Yao would get open looks cause the floor would be so spread out and you have cutters coming from everywhere. The triangle is versatile and if you think about it, has won 9 out of 15 championships. We just need someone who understands how to run the offense and place our team in it. No offense to JVG's "Big Chief Triangle" comment. We should hire Tex Winters as technical consultant.

What makes everyone think Tex would leave Phil Jackson and the most prestigious team in the NBA to come work with the Rockets? I don't even think his stint as coach here was a positive experience for him.

The more I think about it the more the triangle grows on me. I don't think it utilizes Yao's talent to the max. I'm not convinced he can pass the ball as well as we hope. I am a believer that Yao needs to get the ball in the DEEP post rather than the high post. I would like to see a mix though.

The triangle mold would help out our roster a bit by somewhat negating the need for an impact PG. Snyder could play the role of Ron Harper if he can keep up with the Tony Parker's. T-Mac can play point forward if the opposing team isn't pressuring him full court. It may hide our weakness. But it wont fix the problem.

Right now every other team in the NBA knows how to defend the Rockets. Put two guys front and back on Yao. Clog the lane and dare the Rockets to make their 3 pointers. Consequently, the Rockets are 5th in NBA for 3 point shooting. Nobody except for Yao can consistantly score in the lane if you think about it.

Except that's not what Utah did... and the fronting defense hasn't worked all that much this season.

Ya well fix the personnel problems and then think about this. The one really important statistic about the triangle offense.

    9 out of 15 championships!

If the triangle offense were that magical, everyone would run it.
It has never won a title without having the best player in the NBA, and the Rockets don't have the best player in the NBA.

That's pretty much pre-zone for the majority of that.

That is exactly what Utah did.

TITAN: I heard that old Del Harris called you before this game.

Yao Ming: Right. He told me that the Golden States Warriors just left and ignored their centre, and just sent 2 players dedicated on swarming and chasing Dirk Nowitzki all over the court. I told him that for Utah Jazz, they did exactly the same thing; they just ignored Chuck Hayes, and played rough and tough on me.

Triangle aside. That comment from Yao really exposes our greatest weakness at Power Forward.

I agree. If the Rockets had two Top 60 all-time players, Tex and the triangle would guarantee a championship.

Thanks for the common sense. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. In the NBA, great stuff gets copied and there is a reason only the Lakers run the triangle now. It isn't some magical offense that works like a charm. If the triangle were so great, several NBA coaches would be using it now.

True but how many football teams are using the no huddle offense that the Superbowl Indianapolis Colts run?? People are generally stubborn especially head coaches.

Whoa... You gotta have a Peyton Manning caliber guy at the helm for that though.

JVG can't even figure out how to run pick and rolls and you expect him to run triangles? hahaha (assuming he is back)

Tex Winter is 85 years old. I doubt he will be making any more career moves.

If the Rockets ran the triangle offense...they'd still be learning it 3 seasons from now.
