I am trying to connect to a wireless network with my laptop that is protected by WEP. I know the WEP key and the network name. I created the network name on my laptop and entered the WEP key. When it connects it says that I have limited or no connectivity. What could be the problem? It worked fine a few months ago on the same network but now nothing. It says I have a Very Good signal to the network but the connectivity is limited or non-existent so I am assuming that the WEP key is still good because when I put in a bad key I don't even get a signal. Anybody have any tips or tricks?
Try a quick powercycle of the router if you haven't. Unplug it for a few seconds and plug it back in.
You probably just need to walk away from the laptop for a few minutes, it usually will acquire a network IP addy. Just reboot the lap top and walk away for 5 minutes......methinks your problems will go away. DD
I had a similar-sounding problem getting my Wii to stay connected to my network. Nintendo's support website suggested changing the "channel" on my router from the common 1, 6, and 11 to something less frequently used. I haven't had any problems since I did that, but I can't say for sure if that would help you or not.
I had a similar problem and this was the solution. Changing the channel on the router might work. Evidently my cordless phone was interfering w/ it.
Yes, that is true, I changed mine as well long before, but when you get limited access it usually means the lap top has not finished it's connecting to the router. DD
I'm having a next-to impossible week with mine and I can't figure out the problem. Last week, for some reason, my secured WPA wireless signal went away. A default, unsecured "Linksys" signal popped up which was obviously mine (I'm in a semi-rural area), but my usual signal was nowhere to be found. I had the cable company re-boot my modem, then re-jigged the whole Linksys router (set up a new name, new network key, new everything) and I still have the same problem -- everything's loading at dial-up speed. I'm getting five bars on my router signal, the top mark, it's supposed to be at 54.0 Mbps, there's no Mozilla issue that I know of, no spyware, no viruses, my computer is running at normal speed and nothing's being a memory hog. And yet, I can't get back to my normal speed. I go to Speakeasy and it's telling me that I'm getting anywere from 6000 kbps d/l speed to the usual 12,000 kbps, but that doesn't explain why it takes 25 seconds for the Speakeasy page to load. Yesterday, I re-installed Mozilla. Everything's been taken apart, restarted, unplugged, new wires, turned over a dozen times (I've been on the road going to Bulls games), and I'm still stuck with dial up speed (or a little better) in spite of all signs telling me I should be flying along. Not really looking for help, I just needed to vent.
I had the same problem tonight. Need to change the name of the network or the channel and add the new one the laptop. It is the IP address that needs to be refreshed, and that always works.
