Anybody know which teams have cap space this summer? I know the bobcats is one of them, but they already have Felton. Mo Williams would be great, a young pg who still has room to improve.
ROCKETS CAP/TAX SITUATION Free agents (3): Chuck Hayes (r), Dikembe Mutombo, Jake Tsakalidis Players under contract (9): Rafer Alston, Shane Battier, Luther Head, Juwan Howard, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Novak, Kirk Snyder, Vassilis Spanoulis Total for players under contract: $56,206,251 First-round picks: Own Team options: None Player options: Bonzi Wells Total for players with player options: $2,284,200 Limited salary protection: John Lucas, Bob Sura Total for player with limited salary protection: $4,617,610 Estimated NBA salary cap: $55 million Maximum cap room for Houston Rockets: None Estimated luxury tax threshold: $67 million (Rockets not expected to exceed threshold) Compiled by ESPN.com staff basically we have a 10 million cushion before we fall victim to the dreaded luxury tax. I am assuming Chuck Hayes is due about 3 mil and deke and jake will be resigned for similar skrill to what they made last year... with this holding true we will have about 9.5 mil in wiggle room to remain under the luxury tax threshold. perhaps I am an optimist, but that figure is alot to work with, especially in the event of a sign and trade. a MLE contract would eat up about 6 mil of this, but obviously it would not be out of the realm of possibility to go for broke and make up the difference in a S&T considering Sura comes off the books next year at around 4 mil and Juan comes off the books the year after at around 7 mil. with these contracts expiring we would still be able to add pieces at the MLE exception without any luxury repeurcussions that would put players from nocioni to g. wallace in the realm of possibilities. while they are not all good fits, it broadens our horizens a bit to get creative with who we are capable of acquiring
