jopatmc, I know you have been proposing deals like howard+head+picks for Lewis, but I really don't see the Sonics doing that. I think to get Lewis we would have to give up Battier.

1st, Rashard wants to get paid. That's why he is opting out. He isn't going to take any "home town discount." If we want him, we better be prepared to pay him 5+ years at 11M+. Is he worth it? Debatable.

2nd, the Sonics are not going to take back crap for him. They either let him walk (and then do a follow up with Allen to shed more salary in a rebuilding effort) or they do a S&T for actual talent. But they aren't going to take back crap for him.

To play devil's advocate, Boston could put together a much better package with their young guys and a Theo Ratliff expiring contrac than we could. And they get a double bonus of being in the East.

I like Rashard and think he would be good here as a 3rd option, but it will be tough to get him.....but if we offer up Battier, the Sonics I think would listen.

Maybe we can work out a three team trade between Seattle, Minny, and Houston with something like the following happening:

    Houston gets:
    Garnett
    Lewis

    Minny gets:
    Yao
    Howard

    Seattle gets:
    Battier
    Foye
    Sura

I think it is only fair that Minny have to take Howard along with Yao, since it is understood that Yao still has alot of potential to do alot of great things in the league. I think that if Minny traded Garnett to anyone else, they would never get even close to the same value for him. They would be stuck with players that are overpaid, over the hill. Yao is only 27 and is making 11 million, which is unheard of! Everyone knows that you dont trade big for small, so they wouldn't want to trade Garnett for lets say Joe Johnson. Yao has more value, and more market appeal than Brand, or any other big man, so Minny would drool all over this trade.

Seattle I think would be very satisfied to get one very young scorer with amazing potential, along with a solid SF with amazing defensive capabilities. Also both of the players they are getting do no make a whole lot of money, and would still help the team tremendously. We may need to send another play to Seattle (maybe someone with an expiring contract, sura?) to make it all match.

I honestly think that a trade like this (of course making the salaries match correctly) could benefit all of the teams involved.

How about we just talk about trades that are more realistic where Tmac and Yao aren't traded. That's more likely.

Let's work with Sura's 3.8M Expiring contract, Howard, Battier, Head, Snyder, etc.

Why would you say that trading Yao isnt realistic? Although everyone loves Yao, I think Les has made it pretty clear that he would rather see a team that runs more and puts up more points. Does this mean he wants a different coach, or different starting center? That is debatable. Until one of the two are decided, these type of trade scenerios will continue to surface. Sorry.

wow considering that we get KG, keep tracy and somehow acquire lewis don't you guys think we would be pretty much reliant on these guys to score. look at the nets, they have a big three and they barely ended .500. i mean 3 superstars are great imo but with depth we could pretty much be the suns. (amare, marion, and nash) i dont think we really need to overhaul our roster THAT much, but if somehow we could do it, we'd really only have a few years before our players go in the decline and there goes our franchise. yao and tracy are a pretty good duo, not the best but good by far. you have to remember that yao just came back from an injury what 20 some odd games ago? give the guy a break im sure if he was healthy all season he would have performed better in the playoffs. i really think we need to add more depth to this team and by taking away battier and adding lewis we would be added offense but taking away defense. (and yes i admit it didn't seem like battier really added his intangibles into the jazz series)

You should ask by this way, would Seattle like to trade Rashard for Shane?

He's been deeper in the playoffs than anyone on our roster (except Deke, but he isn't really on the roster anymore).

You'd be an idiot not to trade Battier for Lewis.

Would need some serious capologists to see how it would work. Is a sign and traded player traded for his full contract amount, or is he essentially a BYC player so the traded value is 50%?

Say Rashard is signed to a max or very near max deal? What kind of package would work in return for a sign and trade?

The only way we could get Rashard is if he says he is going to walk and will sign with Houston for the MLE, so Seattle is FORCED to do a sign and trade and get whatever we give them.

Then we could package Head a second rounder and cap fodder for Rashard lewis for the 7-9 million a year level. I think in order to get this done we would need to take Earl Watson and his bad contract ( 3 years 6 million per) off of their hands too.

    Rashard Lewis (8 million multi-year)
Earl Watson (6 million 3 year)

    for:

    Luther Head ( 1 million )
Juwan Howard ( 7 million tw years)
    Bob Sura's Contract ( 4 million
    Draft Pick and filler

That deal gets something instead of Rashard just walking and also gets
Watson's contract off the books and a draft pick and a promising young
    guard in Luther Head.

We get Rashard + Watson, who is a solid backup and may beat out Rafer.

    PG: Alston/ Watson/ Spanoulis
    SG: McGrady/ Snyder/ Watson
    SF: Lewis / Battier/ Novak
    PF: Hayes/ Battier/ Draft
    C : Yao/ Mutombo

We could even play a spread out lineup of Yao/Lewis/Battier/McGrady and Watson to allow Yao more room to operate. Or a small fast lineup with:

    Alston/McGrady/Lewis/Battier and Hayes.

How about Yao and McGrady (maybe even Juwona Man and Alston) agree to renogiate their max deals, so we can sign some quality free agents? I.E. - Rashard and or Billups.

I don't know. But, since the star players know they need more help, then it would make a whole lot of sense for the team. A few million dollars will not hurt Yao or McGrady over the life of there careers.

If it is not possible, please ignore my ramblings.

That is it you win the dumbest thread award. Please tell me there are not more people in this country as stupid as you. Rashard Lewis has about a million times more trade value than Battier and he will be signing a contract to rival VC this offseason. These are the kind of threads that make you worry about the future of the country.
