I think this year people realize we are not going to win without a move like adding Artest or acquiring a real point guard like mo williams.
The people who don't realize things like that are the same ones who say we have enough talent on this roster to be champions now... and that we just need minor tweaks.
So from what I understand, the article does not mention Artest to Houston ... we're just speculating based on the article saying Artest could be dealt for little value. Correct? I just want to make sure I understand (and probably edit the thread title).
I am not sold on artest being the answer we are looking for... mostly due to his attitude on the offensive end... sure he smoked us with his arsenal of hail mary 3pt bank shots in our head to head matchups this year, but the fact remains the guy shoots for a low percentage and whines about how many touches he gets. (we already have a low % chucker in t-mac thank you very much...) that is the reason there was so much tension on the sac-town roster this year...because their least effective scorer wanted to be the go-to guy... sure, if a coach can come in here and was able tame him down, he could open up the floor for us at the 4. but he is an inch taller than chuck and not a great shotblocker...and tell me, who was the last coach able to tame this guy down, eh?
I say lets take a chacne. He would solve our enforcer problem, or lack thereof. We need somebody with some attitude, and some fire. WE haven't had that since Cato or Sura, or Francis. We need somebody to protect Yao also. I've been really discusted since Okur punked us in game 7. He wouldn't have tried that Cato.
^^^ Exactly that was my fault I was kind of unclear about that. But everything I have read and I have read alot seems to say Artest is attainable for minimal value if we want him we can probably go get him. Also keep in mind the organization was intrested in Artest back when he was traded from Indiana.
if we get artest, and wells stays and stays fit, and sf3 comes back, we can trade any combinations of alston/head/snyder/vspan/novak for a decend pf. sf3/wells/tmac/battier/artest/new pf/yao coached by aldeman, very strong team
It's hard - as in impossible - to imagine a scenario where Sacramento would trade Artest and be forced to take back JHo, even if they got a crappy late first rounder in the deal. They already have two Juwan's one their team - Shareef and KT. If they are intent on trading Ron, and it seems clear that there isn't huge demand, I'd even prefer a Sura + Snyder + V-Span package to Juwan if I was them...
Of course yes. I remember 2 Rockets-Kings games last season and Artest was amazing. He's hit 2 game-tie 3-pointers and he scored above 35 points. He is a great defender and very good ofensive player. First of all he is so strong and that makes him a better defenser than Battier. Ron Ron for Shane! GREAT
If you saw him play much this season, Ron Ron wasn't working all that hard on the court. Far from it. He had good days and bad days. Plus, you better believe he expects special treatment because he has an extremely high opinion of himself. Lastly, there is a huge amount of behind the scenes headaches that come with this guy. It's very tiresome and wears out a team. The Kings were nuts not to give up Ron Ron for Maggette when they had the chance.
Just a note. Wells will not stay w/ Houston on his current contract. He signed a 2 year deal w/ a players option on the 2nd year only as insurance incase he got hurt his first year. If he were to stay in Houston, it would require a new contract starting at the MLE for multi years.
I'd like it more if we were facilitating a (3-way) trade rather than bringing him in. I would go nuts if we moved Battier for him. Far too much of a gamble. The guy is looking at jail time, and is a ticking time bomb for the incident that will end his career. Yes, he's a bulldog and would help out a ton, but he addresses NONE of the problems that doomed us (1 and 4 spots) except for representing the third option hole. Of course, you're asking a guy that once claimed to be the league MVP and the best player on his team (over Jermaine O'Neal) to take that limited role. I just see it as a horrendous fit. Mike Bibby, on the other hand.... Evan
Artest is a tough situation. Talentwise his skillset is great and would be huge on this Rockets team. But 1) do we give up talent for a player that we don't know if we can count on? 2) Artest's contract would be up soon, how scared would we be on resigning him to multiple years when we can't count on him? Those really are huge issues. I think the Rockets would have to take a pass on Artest and maybe look for someone else. BUT, I like the thinking of looking for a star player that is an "undervalue situation."
The guy is talented enough that there will be some demand. I could see something along the lines of Battier + Howard for Shareef or KT + Artest. Shareef and KT have 3 years on their deal to Howard's 2. I think I'd do it. This team needs to get badder. I also think you could go ahead and start Artest at the 4, move McGrady to the 3, and look to find a whole new backcourt (or maybe have Wells as the 2 guard, if he'd come back).
Artest is very good defender maybe not as gifted as Battier (if Battier is a 1st defensive team, Artest is 2nd), but he makes that up with his offense. Given that, I still might not considering his off the court antics.
If we gave them Shane they would be so happy they might have a heart attack. I am telling you guys Ron Ron is attainable for very little value dead contracts and a pick is good enough for them they want him gone. The Sac-town Bee said their biggest offseason priority was getting him gone.
