I notice and had fun with this the spurs fan who drove very far to watch their team lose a preseason game.

Rather vulgar mouths with those katy bengal brigade dance teams sitting right across from them but we made them feel very small after it was all said and done.

Their excuse was we played francis the whole game so I nicely ask them if they needed gas money for the loser way home. Ha!
So much fun when the opposing teams fans come to town and go away feeling empty hehehehehe.

I hate it when spers fans invade our turf!
I also hate it when a small contingent of spers fans can cheer louder than the whole compaq center combined...

note to people at the games: Make some freakin' noise for your hometeam!

jazz fans are worse than spers fans because I hate when a bunch of old people cheer louder than anyone in the compaq ctr.

I have been to the alamodome about 6 times since the 95-96 season and it's been hell. I have never seen the Rox win there. The only season i didn't go was the 96-97 season when the rox swept them there. It's hostile there. There's so much verbal birages going back and forth. I've even seen some people coming close to getting into fights. I get the impression that Spur fans hatred increased 100% after we kick their @ss in 95. Rockets fans should have reminded them of that.BTW, we also eliminated them in 80 and 81.

Spurs fans are the most rabid, myopic fans in the world -- they support their team blindly no matter what, and think that the Spurs can do no wrong. That is great if you're a Spurs fan, but horrible if you're not, because there is no reasoning or logical conversation with one.

They are abhorrently vocal and spirited -- something that Rockets fans totally lack. The crowd at Spurs games is a very energetic, blue-collar group, wheras at Rockets games, there are a bunch of suits there to entertain clients.

Good Rocket fans are more knowledgable and reasonable than good Spurs fans though. Typically Rocket fans are not particularly optimistic though, not when compared to the Spurs fans anyhow. They can really make that cavernous AlamoDome rock though. . .

Anyone going to the game in SA on Friday? I'm bringing my giant Rockets flag.

Man, those were excellent points. ALL of them. That's exactly the way I feel about Spurs fans most of the time...and exactly what I wish we would see from some Rocket fans as well. Excellent post.

In basketball to football equivilancy....Does Spur fan equate to Raider fan?

If so, I didn't know that.

No 5hit, I have relatives that are die hard Spur fans. According to them, there's always a reason why the spurs lose, the refs, nba conspiracy, etc. No kidding. They never lose because the other team is better.

Yeah I hate Spurs fans! Laker and Jazz fans are just a bunch of bandwagoners. Maverick fans are all a bunch of bandwagoning kids who have no idea what the hell they are doing. Jazz fans are just pathetic. Those old geezers do nothing. Last year or the year before I was at a Utah game where we were whooping em. I was sitting in the middle of many Jazz fans and I yelled how the Jazz are a bunch of p*****s and so are all of their fans. Not one of those oldies said one thing. Thats cause they are a bunch of p*****s like the Jazzholes!

Well, San Antonio is a 1 sport town, so they have nothing else to cheer for. Plus, the asterisk next to their championship is in bold font compared to the ones next ours.

I was at game 5 in 95 at their place and it was 30% or more Rox fans. They gave us the business because the first half was theirs, but in the second half, well we all know how that went. If I was in their shoes I would have been livid - with the way we were treating them and going around like we owned the place.

Ah, just remembering it brings a tear to my eye.

After the Lakers spanked the Spurs last year,my cousin, who is a avid spur and I love to death, said that it was a NBA conspiracy for the Lakers to win and the refs always got one of the twin towers in foul trouble to help LA. I asked her, "Are you hearing what you're saying","they lost by average of 22". I had to remind her that if that was the case why did SA beat them 2 years ago and why did the Rockets beat them in 81,86, and 96. It had nothing to do w/an Consipiracy just that SA was too old and no answer for Kobe. It's unbelievable all the excuses I've had to hear the last 7-8 years.

    Good grief, kids.

Exactly how far out of your way do you go to get your narrow view of the Spurs and their fans?

    Loyal? Yes
    Rabid? Sure
Blue collar? Get your arse out of the cheap seats and have a look around where the season ticket holders are.

Better yet, make the playoffs so we can go head to head and make a comparison.

    You kids are hilarious.

The only bad thing about living in SA is the fact that I have to listen to Spur sh*t all year. It seems to me like a lot of their fans have absolutely no basketball knowledge!

All they know is that the ball goes in the hoop. If it wasn't for Robinson and Duncan, this team would be absolutely no where. Believe me, Tim Duncan runs this town. Had they not won the championship 2 years ago, do you think the Spurs would have gotten the SBC Center? Hell no, because they STILL can't find anything for the Alamodome to hold.

If Tim had left last year, the Spurs would have been up sh*t creek! When he does leave 2 years from now they will have a bad ass arena with no damn team.

Most Spurs fans know nothing about basketball or the status of players contracts, injuries, strenghts, etc. All they know is the "ball goes in the hoop"

    Dumbasses!

Have you actually been to a Spurs game? If not, you have absolutely no idea . . .

I've been to a dozen or so spurs games (usually for free -- they give out TONS of tickets to schools and charities) and the crowd is filled with jeans and t-shirt folks who don't care about screaming, yelling, and just being plain better fans than those at the Compaq Center. Certainly the season ticket holders in the good seats are wealthier, but the Alamodome has a lot of cheap and crummy seats that are always filled. And I don't know if it's the case or not, but I think the Spurs may give away more tickets than the Rockets do -- for our tutoring program, we got 50 tickets on a whim, and they said that we could do it again if we let them know ahead of time. Everyone in our section (beind the backboard, 20 rows up) was from some sort of group that had tickets donated.

I say "blue-collar" because that's the honest truth. San Antonio itself is the 2nd poorest major city in the US (2nd to Detroit) -- it is a VERY blue-collar town, and that is reflected in the city's culture. You see it at Fiesta week, throughout downtown, in the people's attitudes, and at Spurs games. They are blind fans, but they are so fervent -- and not just for the Spurs, but many of them are Cowboys fans as well. You see the Cowboys fanaticism as well, but not to the same extent as the Spurs.

Ticketmaster won't let me check, but I believe Spurs tickets are cheaper than Rockets tickets as well, but I'm not sure. When they let me through I'll take a look.

Right on JJ -- San Antonio is a kickass place, but the Spurs garbage sucks. Tim Duncan and David Robinson are GODS in that city. So was Avery Johnson, and every other Spur. And Greg Popovich? There was a house down Hildebrand that had a big sign out front that said "Greg Popovich - Coach of the Year; Tim Duncan - MVP" out front. Yeah, you just keep thinking that . . .
