Don't get me wrong...I believe the Red Rowdies is a great idea...it just has to be bigger to be more effective. I hope they keep them and other people that are not part of it join...
The Rowdies have made a huge improvement in the way our homecourt feels. People are actually chanting and yelling along with them. Before, it was quiet like a church.
i am not saying they werent loud, but i saw both the national and FSN broadcast of the houston games and the national broadcast did have the crowd noise a lot more muted than the local broadcast. i contrast that with the GS game and i could hear crowd noise in my rear surround speakers (god i love hd!) which was great but it was as if they a)didnt mute the crowd noise down or b)mic it a little to create more of a "dramatic" effect for the game i saw the nets raptors game 5 and the crowd was great, i could hear the chants and all but it wasnt drowning out the commentators like the GS/Dal games were. i am just saying a lot of times networks have raised or lowered the sound of the crowd noise to benefit their ratings/broadcast as they see fit. it happens a lot with football, both college and pro its the same with the nba. i am no architect but a lot also has to do with the design of the building and how sound is carried within certain buildings. i can really only compare the staples center and TC and staples is designed far beter imo. i feel a whole lot closer to the court in the nosebleeds at staples than i did at TC and i think staples seats just as many people. either way its hard to increase the size of the rowdies unless they go corporate or if tmac and yao (highest paid players) step it up. season tickets are not cheap so i dont imagine the organization not selling 50-100 season tickets in the lower bowl. if each season ticket seat is 2k thats a good chunk of money lost to them. What would be cool if the players pool together like 500k (not much at all to them between 10-12 guys each contributing something fair to their pay rate) and get like 200 or so seats or if a corporate sponsor (budweiser again?) 500k isnt much in terms of marketing dollars to them for the seats and they can have them wear their bud red rowdy tshirts etc.
I fully endorse the Rowdies. I posted these before but just as a reminder to all those who have never experienced a game with the Rowdies it is like sitting in the student section of a college game. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/W1lIG2qEPgg"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/W1lIG2qEPgg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hz8VuEhps58"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hz8VuEhps58" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ybbcSpZqYLQ"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ybbcSpZqYLQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XAiaIUWkkdc"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XAiaIUWkkdc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
I will not defend what we (the Rowdies) brought to the Toybox this year as it has been said already and it would dignify the OP's rant as being worth a response... What I have heard is that the Rox are going to try to get the Rowdies sponsored so that there will still be that catalyst for the crowd to chime in with. There are no details whatsoever, so please don't deluge me with "when are the tryouts" or "will you (or any of the other guys/gals) be a part of it next year" type questions. It was an absolute blast and, as painful as the game 7 loss was, I wouldn't have traded that experience for anything short of a guaranteed championship.
Just to let you guys know...most arenas are mic'ed so on tv the crowd sounds loud...the toyota center was hardly ever mic'ed this season I think they told us twice that it was mic'ed but its not an everyday/game thing. Yeah and it would of helped tremendously if everyone else would of got up and cheered with the Rowdies instead of just sitting there with their thumbs up their butt. - Jack Sparrow Rowdie othewise known as...
Im all for having the Red Rowdies back. If the Rockets (and Budweiser) were smart. They would keep sponsoring the Rowdies and make this something like the Oakland Raiders Infamous 'Black Hole'. I think it should also be a season ticket option to sit in the 'Red Rowdie' Section. However, I do agree that their should be a new contest every year to keep the Rowdies innovative. It should be judged by a staff of Coaches, Players, Power Dancers, and Clutch. I could just see the You Tube/Rockets Insider short series right now w ads by Budweiser etc. Im sure its hilarious what some people would do for free season tickets. -Gummi Clutch, smarter than your average Rockets Marketing Executive.
Thanx man, thats what i wanted to know.. if they were even thinking about havin the RED ROWDIES agian... Yall did Great!!!
Yeah, I figured you guys would support JVG because of that reason. My loyalties always lie in what is best for the Rockets....free tickets or not. DD
The Rowdies rocked. I went to 22 home games plus 2 preseason games and all four playoff games. I also made the trip to SA to see the Rockets end the streak. Everytime I went to the game the Rowdies showed strong. I have a package plan in Sec 114. I am never leaving that section. Good Job Rowdies. It has been fun meeting some of you and I sincerely hope that you guys will all be there again for next year. You guys more than deserve it.
Why doesn't LES ALEXANDER step up and pay? He's a frickin' BILLIONAIRE! He should let a Red Rowdy sit in his seat, he wasn't even there for the majority of games last season.
I've thought for a while about another loud, themed group for the games. A possible name is the "Blue Collar Crew". Wear red hardhats with rockets logos and Battier, Hayes, Mutombo, and maybe even Vernon Maxwell jerseys. Put up "Men at Work" barrier tape. Maybe even have a Hayes Rebound or team Blocks/Steals counter. If I lived in Houston, I'd try to organize it. Instead, I'll throw it out there and if anyone runs with it, I'll buy a weekend package in the section.
oh yeah as for crowd noise while we can still step it up game 1 and 7 were loud. link so my original theory of tv stations suppressing or increasing the noise of the crowd volume is somewhat right. the golden state crowd does look to be a whole lot more fun as everyone is standing and wearing yellow. we couldnt even get all the people who were given a red shirt to wear red.
as for the national broadcast, you do realize that for places like Golden State and Utah (and the likes of Sacremento), the national media paid so much attention to the whole underdog idea or the rowdiness of the home crowd that there were mics put on every corner of that building, right? As for FSN, the attention were paid to headsets worn by Bill and ... Clyde, and you should know that headset mics will shut out a lot of outside interference noise.... As for the Rowdies, I've been to over 10 games this season and it's my season low for the past 5 years, mostly due to working late and crap, but this season is, by far, the most enjoyable of any year of the past BECAUSE of the Red Rowdies. The deal by Brian Hopkins to that early game and the opportunity to sit with them is nothing BUT spectacular. Les should definitely bring back the Rowdies if JVG does not stay. Have you seen all those promotions for people to buy tickets to sit with the rowdies? That's a pretty nice promotion of its own. Except... they need to pick a couple better sections. But I doubt that would happen based on how much they charge for the better seats. Besides, they need to let the "normal" fan have the opportunity to shell out the money to sit by the opponent's bench. I really hope they increase the number of rowdies next year. It's not because I want free tickets (probably can't because of work anyways), but because I'd love to get more tickets to sit with them. The atmosphere has been awesome.
Sloan is just going deaf, last time I checked, GS can fit almost 1.5 times the number of people we can, and their games always sell out.
