Give me Gilbert Arenas and Carlos Boozer on this team and I will be Happy every day of the week!

    Not exactly the point...

For every Boozer and Arenas, there's an Omar Cook or Willie Soloman or Steve Logan or Sam Clancy or Mario Austin or David Young.

And of the players that DO emerge from the second round as rotation players, the vast majority never become starters and an even TINIER percentage make it to an all-star appearance even once.

I'm just saying that the odds are pretty damn long that ANY second rounder turns into a long-time, productive, starting-calliber player on a contending team.

No....he played like 1400 mins his rookie year and averaged about 20 mins a game even though his f/g percentage was below .400

And if V-Span sucks when playing half or 3/4 speed in practce and in fullspeed during game minutes, what on earth makes you think he should get more playing time?

Exactly...the original poster misquoted a stat i put on a different thread trying to support Span where I mentioned how Manu had almost as many minutes in his first MONTH (270 in november) than Span had this whole season (275)

Yeah! Like when Bob McNair asked guys interviewing for the Texans' head coaching vacancy if they saw David Carr as a legitimate NFL starting quarterback. That really worked out well...

The teams play 3 games a week during the year... The practices are short and intense because the players need that limited time off they get to recuperate from game to game.

Practices are not really about trying new things out much. The only part of a practice that Span or any other non-rotation player can show what he can do, is the even less time they spend (cause they dont do it for the whole practice) playing 5-on-5.

    ----ASSUMPTION ON------
Which side of that 5 on 5 do you think JVG played him on? And in what position? I really doubt Span was running plays with mc grady and yao... Even if he did use him as a PG in practices, which I doubt, he wouldnt be able to show much if he had noone to pass to, noone to set a decent screen etc. Especially when the 5 on the other side are one of the best defesive 5 in the league. Not saying the rest of the bench players are bad. Not at all... Just that the PG position really depends on your teammates... And the 5-on-5 is probably for the benefit of the players who'll get the most minutes....If it was Novak we were talking about, you guys would have more of a point cause it's esier to judge regardless of teammates/opposition. He either makes his 3s or he doesn't....
    ----ASSUMPTION OFF-------

Obviously im not at rockets practices so I don't know if the above is true, but JVG hasnt convinced him that he is the type of coach that would dedicate even 5 minutes to see what his other players could do.... I can see the practices more like: we have 90 mins to prepare for the next game, let's practice our standard plays....

little different, Span is a good prospect but not the highest paid player at the most important position. Fact is most belived Carr had what it took to be an above average to good player that could lead a wining team.

Now when you interview anyone about a potential opening you have them evaluate your roster and I think a good question would be "Do you see Billy as a rotation nba point gaurd?" "Do you see Snyder, Luther etc"

A more apt comparison would be 2nd round choices that are rotation players.

All Stars is a bit of a stretch.

Do you have any proof of that? Could it possibly be that JVG holds a grudge?

No Tony Parker can shoot......... I see VSpan has potential but he SUCKS right now I don't know what the big deal is. I watched every single Rockets game this year and he can't shoot, can't defend, and is good for about a turnover every 2 minutes he's on the court. He plays hard, but totally out of control. I would have had him warming the bench too. I do agree with him playing in the NBADL though as well as Novak. If we're not gonna play them they need to be developing because they are our future.

The last thing we want is a GM telling a coach (be it Van Gundy or someone else) who to play. V-Span didn't play because he couldn't stop turning the ball over when he did. Morey doesn't know squat about coaching and would dare presume to tell another coach how to run his team. He should tell V-Span that you'll play if your good enough. Then the burden is on V-Span to get better not some weak minded coach under the GM's thumb.

sigh, he is playing out of position, more time on the floor=less to's and playing the 1 and not being forced into a spot up shooter=a much higher % of shots falling.

When did Tony Parker get moved from point to off gaurd?

By the way in the playoffs, in 3 total minutes.

V-Span shot 50% from the floor with 1 assist and ZERO turnovers and 2-2 from the FT line for 4 ppg average.

    He elevated his game....

Really? And yet you compare him to Tony Parker and Manu Ginobilli. Who is the one making the stretch?

    Span arrived back in Athens...

Talked to a couple of press people who looked for him in the airport...

Nothing new...the exact same things he said 2 days ago regarding his future. i.e. that he has a contract with the rockets for another 2 years. Mentioned that if things end-up in such a way that he comes back to Europe, Panathinaikos will have the first word....He'll spend a few days resting in Athens and his hometown of Larisa and then he starts training by himself again...

The only other thing mentioned in the story is that his old coach who spent a few days in the US at the end of the regular season said: "He seems twice as fast as when he left greece"

We are comparing them in their rookie years to Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli who were both rotation players in their first year, and not even close to all stars.

Not to where they are now.

yeah he put a pass so on the money to Juwan that even he could not blow the lay up. Also he did not have to spot up in his three min.
