I respect your opinion but I would cease following the Rockets were this to happen. I have NEVER forgotten nor forgiven what John Lucas did to this franchise.

I'm very impressed with John Lucas as a human being. As a basketball fan, I'll never get over the '83 Coogs, but the '86 Rockets team was impossibly tragic and it looked and felt like it was an obvious dynasty.

Lucas has said he'll always blame himself, but he can't take the "fall" (ugh) for everything that subsequently happened.

I will never understand why JVG has felt that JLIII was a viable option given his hyper "whiff" defense and no-pass game, but I don't even want to think about what Daddy's perspective would be.

There wasn't anything Lucas couldn't do on the basketball court. In all honesty I don't think those guys ever understand why other guys can't.

If Les gives him an interview (as a gesture), that would be very cool, but I have to admit it would be too difficult for me to see him on the sideline (yes, een much worse than JVG).

Some memories just attach to your DNA.

I honestly understand. But after someone's nose has been clean for 20 years, I can certainly forgive what they did because of the blow.

I agree -- he cleaned up his act, admitted his mistakes and moved on. That's all anyone can do.

I honestly have no opinion about how he'd be as a coach -- but as another imperfect human being I respect his recovery.

Thanks for understanding. For me, this ranks right up there with what Kermit Washington did to Rudy T. It is indeed a tragedy about that '83 NCAA Championship because I fervently believe that is the sole reason why Guy V is not in the Hall Of Fame where he belongs.

well, if you yourself cannot define superstarts in the nba today there is no point in continuing this discussion.

Rookie Head got some decent playing time under JVG but only because of injuries. Question, if JVG had gotten Rookie Yao, would Yao have gotten any playing time??

As has been said before, this is simply not true. Head was a rotation player from day 1, and remained one when the team was at full strength.

Lots of people tell this lie, but that doesn't make it true.

    Yes. now shut up.

I know it is just my own personal wet dream, but I would love to see JVG hire Adelman as his offensive assistant.

You must not remember JVG having an on-air orgasm (while he was working for TNT) when Yao had his break-out game against Dallas.

Ironically, the same thing that we're blaming JVG for (overplaying his starters, refusing to develop players who need developing, mortgaging everything to win now).... are the same things that kept this team in the hunt when Yao went out for 30+ games.

He does get more out of less... that never gets refuted... but its his inability to get more out of more that may cost him his job. Other coaches are better at getting more out of more... namely Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, and possibly even Rick Adelman.

However, I question whether any of those elite coaches would have gotten the band of misfits to play as hard over the 32 game stretch when the season was declared "over" by even the most die-hards here. In fact, I've seen how Riley's attitude changes when his team doesn't have has much talent... I've seen Phil basically phone it in the last two years when he knew his team wasn't good enough... and Adelman has lost his job twice when his talented teams started getting old/injured.

So, I guess my position is... if Yao and T-mac stay healthy, and they improve this roster, perhaps it is better to see what a new coach can do. But, if things stay status quo... and the stars continue to be oft-injured... and the overall roster doesn't get upgraded... things will be tougher for a new coach (no matter how good he is) to succeed here.

    That is all.

Larry Brown would destroy this team and then retire after one year.

You guys are crazy, we are the best defensive team in the leauge sans San Antonio and you want to get rid of the coach? Yeah thats a good idea. I don't hear anyone screaming for Popovich's head. We need better scouts and to sign better players. Where is our Ginobli and Parker finds late in the first round?

My feelings are if JVG leaves we will regret it in the long run. Who are they going to hire, Paul Silas?

Agreed, Larry Brown would be a disaster for the Rockets!! Yet so could JVG and his 'WIN NOW Senario'. The Rockets need a change and several players, it's going to take about three seasons and a new coach.

Do the Rockets even shoot for (let alone get) the #4 seed without the win now approach?

Are we still whining if we only ended up as the #8 seed, or out of the playoffs all-together?

Funny how things work... team busts their ass for their relentless coach who won't accept excuses to stay afloat amid injuries, and yet it merely sets them up for a bigger fall that could cost them all their jobs.
