    lol.......
no matter how good you are back in Europe, you will still need 1 year or 2 just to adjust. That is a fact. What's wrong to point out the obvious and set the expectation right?

as far as I remember, JVG did play VSpan, and he even praised him after the first couple games. VSpan played his way out of the rotation.

And why is that a fact because you say it is.

Look at the success of Toronto and all it's European rookies some of who couldn't hold Vspan's jock. Vspan was never a fair shot here. JVG said from the get go that he would have to do media control were VSpan was concerned. He said even his wife hates rookies. He tried to make Vspan into Luther Head a 3 point shooting set player . How stupid can he be, Vspan is almost the exact opposite of that.

His discontent for Vspan was so obvious and trying to make him look bad in the media was part of his routine now. It's exactly his motive for making comments like Vspan thinks he is Tmac and Tmac is Tmac here. Vpan never said it that way meant that what he was saying is that his role on his team was similar to Tmacs and it was. And he said so that Gundy would try to stop making him something that he wasn't. But Van Gundy chose to act stupid and take it out of context to try to make him look bad. Shame on you JVG and what a loser you are. If you have a problem with a player handle it behind close doors like a man and watch how your players respect you for that.

JVG never wanted VSPAN and especially never wanted Vspan to play the point and only gave him one shot against a superior San Antonio team that was destroying JL and Rafer. That's not an opportunity but rather a feeding to the wolves. ANd it was by design to make Vspan look bad and get the media on his side. In the end rather than give Vspan any real opportunity he relegated him to the 12 man off the bench and only offered the garbage of the garbage minutes. Even this board shutup about playing Vspan after that. So JVG succeeded in doing wwhat he set out to do from the beginning and that was to not play Vspan and control the hype about him.

Span was not a pure PG in Europe because he was playing either with Diamantidis (in PAO) or Diamantidis and Papaloukas (in the greek NT).

Both these players are absolutely stunning PGs.... So Span never really had to bring the ball up. Running the offense in the half-court however was split between him and one of those. He also runs the majority of the fast-breaks.

He can pass very well because he does it all the time.

That's why I thought he was a good fit for the rockets. He didnt neccesarily have to take Rafer's mins or add the risk of a rookie PG bringing up the ball.
But (in a way similar to his old team) you could have Rafer bring up the ball with Span, McGrady,Yao and say battier or Hayes in there and just let him drive when he got the ball or play the pNr rather than camping him at the 3pt line.

I know it's uncool to quote an entire post, but there are some I'm unwilling to edit and this is one of those.

OMR I can't fully get down with some of this, but your points get ignored because of some of your hyperbole yet they still bear repeating.

When JVG's "resignation" get's officially announced I just want one thread that acknowledges the JVG/and a 50th overall pick hit an allegorical wall and the rest will be history. V-Span never may make it here, but I firmly believe he was a blatantly visible symbol that the front office had problems with JVG.

I want to take this opportunity to somewhat prematurely welcome in the Daryl era. When the smoke clears, do something, and go easy on the speaking tours.

Greece's style of play is totally different than any NBA team or style. And many of you might argue, but Giannakis is also a far better coach than JVG..
Judging of the NBA style, he is a true PG with penetration and passing skills. NOT shooting skills. I feel sorry for him... he was forced to play the 2 position and be a 3-shooter when defenitely it's not his skill.

As for the PnR, as you all see Greece beat USA with simple PnR sets made from either Papaloukas,Spanoulis or Diamantidhs..Spanoulis would be a good fit to Utah judging from their style of play (PnR with Deron and Boozer)

Wow.. you seem to underestimate (a lot) Greek basketball, probably the best in Europe..let me remind you a few players who made the journey from NBA to Greece : Dominique Wilkins,Dino Radja, Byron Scott, Matt Bullard...all of them famous enough right?? Oh, Smush Parker also...now he plays as a starter at LA... and a recent example, Tony Delk...
Delk is struggling at Panathinaikos because he simply can't adjust to the system..Delk is not a 2nd round PG but as i recall he doesn't even see the court (behind Diamantidhs and Vujanic)

So please do me a favor....just because NBA is a step higher than Europe, than doesn't mean the gap between them is as huge as you think

Those numbers are not from Cassell's rookie year (looks like 99-00). He did not play that much in November his first year and when he did play it was only because of injury. It wasn't until later that he earned his way into the every game rotation.

Who knows? JVG never played him to find out.....

I am saying that Rudy realized that he had a talented Rookie and knew that in order for the team to get better he had to play that rookie and live with the mistakes he made, and by the end of the year, the team would be better for it.

Same with Manu Ginobli & Tony Parker in San Antonio.

Yes, V-Span is going to make mistakes as he adjusts to the NBA game, but by the end of the season, we would have had an attacking PG that can man up on defense and give the team an entirely different look when he was in the game.

Instead, he withered on the bench, and the team has no clue as to whether he can be that guy, because JVG didn't play him.

Look, this team has two max contract players, and as much as we would like to think a trade or FA signing is really going to help, the best thing the team can do is develop it's young talent to Augment the veterans.

Robert Horry, Sam Cassel etc....were key, but they got to play and make mistake as rookies and young players.

Since our cap space is limited, and therefore our options are as well.....you have to develop your young players.

JVG has to go for this reason alone.

That's correct, JVGrumpy can do the coaching intangibles very well :D (manipulate the media, take things out of context, buy free tickets for the fans to gain their love) but in the end you see that he chokes in the playoffs and his coaching job is below average when it matters.

That guy needs to go no matter what happened with Spanoulis, that's the bottomline.

Yeah, because it's impossible for a coach to see a player outside of gametime. It's not like they practice or anything.

What if V-Span looked just as terrible in practice (with starters and meaningful opportunities) as he did in the games? Should he still have been played a bunch and lost us a bunch of games and home-court-advantage?

Well I guess every rookie looks bad in practice according to JVG. Did you see the stat that showed Luther was the longest tenured drafted player under JVG...ever.....?

He got rid of every draft pick within 1.5 years, and Luther has lasted 2 years.

For the most part he just doesn't develop younger players.......and his style ultimately DESTROYS the team he coaches, because the veterans break down.....

JVG's roster strategy is one of his biggest flaws....when you have two max contracts you HAVE to develop from within....

And this point appears to go unnoticed or ignored.

And did Head play in his rookie year?

You mgiht be somewhat right about JVG's deficiency wrt young players, but I'm still unconvinced that VSpan chouls have had more pt. We just don't know what he did in practice.

A coach is throwing the dice... more pt to develop young player w/ more reg season losses and maybe lose hca -vs- the potential for a player who might help in the playoffs. So when the coach looks at the roster ... who will be in the abbreviated post-season rotation and does this guy have a shot to displace anyone ... yet?

You complain endlessly about Skip, yet at least with a missed shot by Skip there's the potential for a rebound. VSpan's t/o's would be worse...
