    Before this thread can get any more derailed than it is...

    This is, technically, a sub tropical storm. These are not uncommon. The earliest occurance of one of these was in early April. These are sort of the cousins of the Nor'easters that hit New England during the late fall months.

    This is not any indication of the hurricane season to come based on previous records of similar activity.

    I don't think they started naming sub tropical storms until well after they started naming hurricanes.
