If you're Vince Carter, they're around to provide a cyberspaced shoulder to lean on. Like everyone else watching Saturday night's postgame interviews, the Nets' star saw Tracy McGrady was an emotional wreck in the aftermath of Houston's Game 7 loss to Utah, so Carter has been in touch with his cousin via text messages the past two days -- even inviting him to Games 3-4 against Cleveland this weekend. "I was just telling him to keep his head up and remember who he is," Carter said yesterday. "He shouldn't put that pressure on himself -- play basketball and enjoy it. People put pressure on him instead of just playing basketball. "I think he kind of got caught up in what Charles Barkley and everybody else (on TNT) had to say -- not just Charles Barkley, but everybody else -- instead of playing basketball for his team and being Tracy McGrady and letting the chips fall where they may. I felt bad for him, because he wants to win and he's a great player and he just gets unlucky. I just told him, 'Hold your head up like the superstar that you are.'" T-Mac has yet to accept his invitation to New Jersey, but Carter thinks the short vacation would do him good. "It's just a frustrating moment. And for him, I think it's magnified because of his (winless) record in the playoffs. I can understand how that can get to anybody," Carter said in reference to McGrady never winning a playoff series
And he's a free agent!? Why doesn't he just forget about the money and come to Houston on his own will.
First- that family is cursed Second- Vince is going to feel great regardless if he doesn't make it past the second round. It's a contract year for him and he's playing well enough for some stupid team like the hawks or knicks to throw money at him, after that he can take it easy.
That is a really good point. If the playoff seeding had been the same as it was two years ago, wouldn't the Rockets have played the Sonics? Besides that, look at the teams that players like Lebron James and Vince Carter get to play in the playoffs today in the Eastern Conference. So much of sports revolves around luck, you feel stupid emotionally investing in it.
this is what VC gets for first not giving up his all-star spot for MJ. you mess with legends, the karma will get cha.
good point. i'll never forgive him for that. not only is he a whiny little baby, he also has no respect for his elders.
NO THANK YOU VINCE CARTER IS CANCER. I don't want this guy to quit on us midseason and then handout the entire playbook to the opponent. He cannot share the rock and needs Kidd to babysit him and get him going. We need a playmaker not a team breaker.
Well Carter gave away plays to the other team while he was in his last season in Toronto. I think it was against the Sonics and he just told them what play they were gonna run. He basically quit on his team and thats why a few weeks later the Raptors trade him for Alonzo Mourning which was pretty much nothing cause they released Zo the next day so he could sign with Miami. In short Carter is a proven loser who quit on his team and sabotaged them giving out plays to other teams. No wonder thsy hate him Toronto.
yes, but people think vince should have stepped down and let mj have his spot. it was jordan's last year
Correct me if I am wrong, didn't he give up the spot before the game? What do you mean by "people think"? Didn't people vote VC over MJ? By that, I guess people wanted VC over MJ at that point, right? I hate VC for quitting the Raptors, after he insisted on those long and awful contracts for "his guys" like Davis and Williams. I also hate Mourning for refusing to play for Raptors, but still insisted to cash on them by faking injury. What I don't understand is, if VC gave up the spot to MJ, that should be a nice gesture from him. Instead, all those "people" THINK he should do this or that, and made him a loser anyways. If he gives up, he would be giving up under the pressure from those "people". If he refuses, then it's him disrespecting the mighty MJ. In this league, thugs get more respect, because you know there will be consequences when you mess with them. However, when you are talented but not lucky enough to win, and a nice guy. All jealousy people will be all over you, claim that you are so soft, you are no winner etc, TMac or VC. God damn it, how many of those "experts" were winners anyway? There might be a couple of them fortunate enough to ride the jocks of a few great winners at the right time. All of a sudden, they started to talk about winners or losers?
I thought he did too (my post abive was prolly wtong), I dont remember, but I remember there was a big controversey over it. regardless, some people were upset that he even thought about starting. I couldnt care less. Like someone said. if people were so pissed, they shouldda just voted mj in in the first place
Vince quit on the Raptors...hmmm... the same way Tmac quit on the Magics? The Nets Carter and the Rockets Tmac are exanmples of much more mature and team first players...listen to them interview each other at the Allstars...youtube it...they always talk about playing together...they may quit on a frustrating situation when they were immature...but even then they wouldn't quit on each other... Vince averages about 5-6 assist a game...along with 6 boards...when he gets into attack mode...he is the strong finisher we all wished for against the Jazz... he and Tmac would be deadly...with Yao manning the middle?? That could crazy good with the right coach... I already mentioned in the GARM a trade scenerio bringing Vince...I have always felt he would be a Rocket...honest...he is the one "star" player I can see us acquiring (via Howard, Battier, a resigned Wells and Sura's expiring contract)... anyways...if he comes and we sign Nocioni for the full MLE and Francis for the Vet min...we are reloaded in a big way for next year.... -V
