Bullard continued:...he's got a family, he's a really nice guy, and if this job is causing him to be that way. Maybe you know it's smart for him to step away, and there's more to life than just basketball.

Bullard on Larry Brown: ...but let me just tell you. I think if that the Rockets don't bring him back, and they go Larry Brown that's a big mistake. I don't think Larry Brown is the right coach, to coach, the kind of team we have in Houston.

Interviewer at the end: Again keep an eye on Mark Iveroni, if Jeff Van Gundy is in fact done. I think he is done, and I've been told he's done. Mark Iveroni may be the guy there in Houston to take over, just what I'm told, it's not coming from me! It's coming from someone I respect, who thinks he's paid his dues, and ready for a head coaching job.

I am assuming you are talking about Marc Iaveroni.

He is currently an assistant coach on the Suns team. So, that would fit Les's comment about wanting his team to play uptempo.

Here's what's interesting about this guy though. He might be coaching the high octane Suns's offense right now, but before that he actually worked with Pat Riley whose emphasis is on defense.

Talk about contrasting styles. Its like working at a church during the day and then switching to Strip club stint at night.

It could be good in the sense that he would have a good balance of offense and defense.

IMO, I would still go after Adelman.

Suns' assistant Marc Iavaroni would be great. With him, the Rox would definitely be getting rid of some of their many concrete sneaker players.

Got no problem with Adelman either.

Like JVG, Marc Iavaroni is also a game-tape junkie...perhaps even more so than Van Gundy himself. He is definitely looking to become a head coach and Houston would be a great situation for him.

love Marc Iavaroni as an option;but we would still need a competent point guard who can finish,in order to run a more uptempo game.Call me a genius for this observation, but all the great teams have one thing a common,a really good point guard who distributes and scores when has too :p

I would go with Adleman...too much at stake to risk on a rookie coach.

Exactly. It all sounds promising and fun to think about but Les is going to have to go into Luxury Tax territory to make a competent and quick team work here. However, I would welcome the change of style and Iavaroni.

i like adelman too.. just think of it, name a slow-ass but skilled center who was used for his max potential in terms of shooting and passing..

yup yao will be our 2nd playmaker next to tmac.. we just have to surround them with athletic/quick shooters and slashers who can rebound..

Del Harris will coach the Rockets and you can book it.

where is adelman an assistant right now?

whenever his name came up I would always dismiss him because of his lack of defense. but now that you mention it, the ball movement the kings had on offense was a thing of beauty.

I remember one of yao's strengths coming into the league was his passing ability...now no so much.

Although this wouldn't shock me, I have never known Doc Rocket to be right. So on that alone, I'm guessing Adelman. :)

He's taking the year off after being let go by SacTo. Supposedly, he's in discussions to become President of the Blazers.

hopefully when jvg's the rox can still retain the "effective" defensive principles that jvg instilled in them..

just look at flip saunders @ detroit.. i don't think he is known for his defense.. but detroit still defends as if larry brown is still their coach but their offense now is more fluid

aaahhhh...I was going to say for some reason I thought he was an assistant with Portland.

that would explain the confusion. he is definitely an interesting choice.

    thanks!

I remember minnesota had pretty stingy defense the year samIam and sprewell were there.

I guess it's hard not to have good D with KG guarding the rim though

larry brown didn't make that team a defensive juggernaut, ben wallace did. and rick carlisle had that team contending years before larry brown showed up.

larry brown = overrated. jvg is his superior. and i believe jvg STILL isn't the right coach for this team. larry brown shouldn't even be considered.
