Yeah, yeah. I've tried this before, but I need to know how much it would cost for me to produce a song. Favors are welcomed.
What exactly do you need done? Is it 500 tracks or just one or two? Do you play the instruments? Etc., etc.
Get on Craigslist or Houston Press classifieds. There are all sorts of "songwriter demo" packages out there from one-man recording studios. You can record the instruments or they can do it for you (electronically). If it's only one song, see if you can get a set price for the whole thing rather than a "by the hour" rate.
what he said do you play? do you want live musicians? what kind of material? How developed is the material? A real studio is going to run 50 or more an hour with engineer. Project studio with "producer" will be much less but the quality may be much less as well. depending on the material you can expect 10 to 15 hours per song if you don't have your **** together. or more. that is for recording time. mixdown time can be equal to that also depending on the material. It is best to have it mastered professionally which will run from 50 to 150 a song and up. I can hook you up with a real studio and a real producer but it will be expensive. The type of material will also determine who would be right for production. If all you need is basic direction and engineer then it will be much less.
Go to a music store like guitar center and you'll meet plenty of "producers" there that are willing to do projects. In the keyboard department usually there are people there that can sequence, you'll just have to ask around.
I have a garage appartment behind my place that my wife turned into a studio which she set up with pro-tools. Its not "The Knitting Factory" but its cheap and the recordings that shes has done are as good as what I've heard from any second tier recording studio. As I said it is cheaper than most of the studios and I think I could also get her to discount the price a bit for a 'Clutchfans Special'. If you are interested, send me an email through the BBS and I'll talk to her about it to get some details and send you some samples of some of the people she has recorded to give you an idea.
I think it costs more, if the song sucks. Especially if it's country. I'm not saying anything, but you might want to take out a second mortgage just in case.
