As stated in a thread below, Hamilton is basically worthless. I'm going to put in a nicer way than Pippen er Francis3 put it. He is way to slow to guard even the most mediocre centers and has no shot. His moves look like they are in slow-motion and he turns it over 90% of the time. Other than the few boards and space he takes up he is worthless. Pig is a more viable option; atleast he can move. Until Hamilton gets in shape they need to put him on the bench. Basically, when Hakeem and Cato get back release him.
he may be bad, but what are you going to do if cato or hakeem gets injured again? does pig play center? maybe they could switch places.
Someone agress with me that he sucks like hell. Look WHAM! I got this worked out ... I hear rumors .. That Hamilton is on the block. Like i said on another post. 2 deals being talked. Hamilton to Burger King for 2 Whoppers... but right this second i found out that they like him so much they are offering to that deal small fries... NOT BAD AT ALL The other deal Hamilton to Taco Bell for 2 Chalupas and a first round Double Decker.. Mmhhh sounds like a good deal.. I will let you guys know what is happening , I talk to mr.hamilton alot, ( Kind of like Puffy does to Sam Mack, Im not trying to make fun of you Puffy) . By the way great scoop on the sam mack story.
Yeah, you're right. The rockets knew when they signed him that he would be a project. But will they be patient enough for him to lose some weight and develop some kind of post game??Probably not.. This is off the subject, but what's with Bullard trying, i said trying, to drive to the basket for a layup? He's not fast enough, he can't do that! If you set a pick for him, its pretty automatic that his shot will go in, but he can't shoot off the dribble. ------------------ "You know, its interesting..." --Calvin Murphy [This message has been edited by 2Sandwiches (edited January 06, 2000).] [This message has been edited by 2Sandwiches (edited January 06, 2000).]
Everyone knows that Thamm sucks right now. The question is: how much will he improve by the start of next season? Mainly, how much weight will he lose? He seems to be showing progress bit by bit. And besides, WHO SAYS YOU GOTTA PLAY HIM? When Hakeem/Cato come back, there ain't gonna be any room for Thamm aside from garbage time. His main priority is to get into shape and pick up some more moves/skills along the way. He doesn't really hafta play in the game to do that. BTW, his free throws seem to be comin along well.
You basically can´t put Hamilton on the bench. The players and the coaching staff wouldn´t find a place to sit any more.
On a serious note. I think Hamilton agreed with Rockets management to lose the weight. Via trainer or whatever. It had to be part of the deal, otherwise, I can only think of one reason he would be signed for two years by Rudy. And that would be to Hak a shaq. I simply don't buy that as logical. If he hasn't lost some serious weight by next year I will never understand this move at all. My own opinion is that he's got a gift. He thinks the game. Don't ask me where he learned to think the game, but to be honest, I think he knows a lot. Maybe playing Football helped. I don't know, but he's proven to me that he is a thinker. His body just can't catch up to his mind. When it does, I believe in him. I doubted all along the way, but now I'm on his side. Time will tell. Bullard: I don't see as many games as you'all down in Texas, but Bullard can drive the lane. He's got a little pull up jumper in him. I'm not convinced he can finish a drive with a nasty layup, but he can stop and pop. And he does have a nasty dunk in practice. At least that's what I've heard. So I'm ok with him trying to drive the lane. At least he's trying to draw fouls unlike some other rockets (who are capable drivers) that never see the stripe.
I say he sucks right now, he just does not hustle. Maybe it is his weight, but it seems more like his attitude to me. Since we are going nowhere this season, let's see if he can get on the Jenny Craig plan and lose about 80 pounds. It is not costing anyone anything, as we would lose with him or without him. DaDakota
Two sandwiches is only a viable option against slow opponents. His man reason is to force power players to go around him and hope for help. I think he is a keeper as long as shaq is in the league. Against LA, when Tham set a pick the defender had over 600 pounds to worry about.
I would say give THamm a chance to lose some weight and develop (a guy his size is really valuable if he is good), however, I see two big problems with him. One is his lack of quickness. I am not talking about raw speed, no one his size is going to be fast, I am talking about reaction quickness. Quickness is something that's hard to develop, and even at his size, we should see some flashes of quickness. Second, he seems to have bad hands. I don't really see what that has to do with weight, so again, I don't see him developing good hands any time soon. If the guy is a thinker and knows the game, make him a coach, I just don't think he has any real fundamental skills in the game.
Some people don't get it.... I guess you didn't see last years play off and what Shaq did to Hakeem. He made him his B*TCH! It is like an offence line man. Shaq won't be able to push 2 helpings around like that. However, there are 30 other teams that we need to beat besides the lakers.
Phrancis: Maybe you don't get it, Shaq has basketball skills (except the freethrow), post moves and is in good shape. The only thing Hamm has is size. In football, offensive lineman are supposed to be good blockers, how many do you see playing basketball?
We do not have to worry about the Playoffs or Shaq this year, perhaps for several years. We have the 4th WORST record in the entire NBA, and are real close to dropping even further. DaDakota
If THam was waived and the rockets played LA tommorrow, how many points would Shaq score? 60, 70 if the rockets are lucky. I am looking to the future. I don't think Cato will be able to stop Shaq. I don't think Mihm will be able to stop Shaq. Kenyon Martin can't even see over Shaq's high tops. What is the point of rebuilding if you wait till shaq retires to make a run? no reason. How do you stop Shaq without fouling? Three step process 1)prevent shaq from posting deep. All the skill in th world can't save you if you don't have size. The marador D only works once a game. 2)Double with tall athletic player who will make pass out dificult. 3)rotate well on pass out or box out on shot. Tham has his uses against other slow owerweight players that are only in the league to foul Shaq.
I think that one day (many years from now) 2 sandwiches will be a decent big man....nothing spectacular but I believe productive. He's too fat and uncomfortable out there. I say keep the pig and move hamilton to the ir and maybe one day he'll help.
