Over the next few weeks, maybe even months, you'll hear a lot of criticism of Dirk and T-Mac. They couldn't carry their respective teams, lacked heart, and don't deserve to be seen as elite players. The problem with this reasoning, though, is that Nowitzki and McGrady had completely different playoff experiences. Comparing the two just doesn't make much sense.

Dirk Nowitzki's Mavericks were dominated by the massive underdog Warriors. Maybe they lacked a low post option or a crazy guy, but on paper Dallas was the deeper, more talented of the two teams. Dirk was largely absent for the series, bothering only to flex his superstar sinew at the end of game five. Josh Howard looked like the better player most of the time, and Dirk made several comments that called his leadership skills into question.

McGrady, on the other hand, took a closely-matched series to seven games, with little more than himself and Yao to work with. Utah's vastly underrated squad swarmed him non-stop, and still he managed to take over when necessary. While Yao might have put up numbers, it was unquestionably T-Mac who helmed the Rockets' effort. He went out of his way to take sole responsibility for whatever happened, and if anything is being condemned for passing the ball and not forcing his shots at the very end of game seven.

That's what makes McGrady's case such a bummer. The guy deserved to win, and carried himself like a champion. He might have failed to win a series yet again, but there's no doubt it will eventually happen for him. Dirk, on the other hand, has people asking some major questions about his make-up as a pro athlete.

Tracy, if you take away his scoring, can still do other things like defend and get the ball to an open teammate.

Dirk, if you take away his scoring, he's featured sitting on the bench.

i hope tmac reads this. i seriously am concerned about his confidence; the rockets as an organization and his friends and teammates better be doing everything possible to keep this man strong. we need him playing at his best, unless we plan on trading him for someone better.

I personally haven't heard anybody criticizing T-Mac, esp with the Dirk debacle. I heard more people defending T-Mac rather than attacking him. Even Barkley went as far as to say "Don't put him on the gone fishing pics."

It's a total team effort. T-Mac needs to develop a chip on his shoulder and start getting a "revenge" type of mentality. It'll help him develop more of a killer instinct.

and Yao should feel worse than both of them combined based on what Boozer did to him.

Why should Dirk feel worse tha T-Mac? Great question - easy answer.

When you look at the Mavs they were the best team in that NBA. They were amazing won game after game after game. Everybody say who is the champion? Mavs because not many teams could beat them. But Mavs have a great players. Dick is not a star like T-Mac who can carry the team, NO. Mavs are great because Dick has Terry Howard Stacks and the others --> that's why they were great. So I really cannot understand why Dick is the 1st MVP candidate? Are you kidding me

Tracy has a great team also but his coach thought only about defense ( i like defense) as i said earlier you cannot play only defense when you have Yao T-Mac. If Rockets were ofensive team more they could win abot 60 games and they're probably be now in that fu*king 2nd round.
T-Mac did not have Yao (injury) and he had very tough team in the 1st series but I'm sure we could and we can win with Jazz 4-2 easily!

Now I'm looking forward next season. I wanna see great Rockets coach who thinks more about ofense (but defense too) and a quick team. We can easily win probably 60 games per season and I'm sure and I hope thet we are going to take that 2nd round this year :) (It'll be next - 2008 PO)

I like how he added "and don't deserve to be seen as elite players" in his little tidbit. That's fine, but would this guy consider Kobe an elite player? He couldn't get out of the first round either, hell, he lost in 5 games.

Just wondering. Gotta keep a standard. Does Garnett deserve to be seen as an elite player? He couldn't even make the playoffs. AI and Melo didn't get out of the first round, etc. etc.
