As much as it might perturb people I haven't read anything outside of Vescey that confirms that this guy is actually right. It's basically Peter Vs. the Chronicle and I'm inclined to give the paper the edge.
Except the guys at the chronicle are so deep into the organiztions pockets that they would never break that story. While in NY they could care less, it is all about the story. DD
I think VG is a good coach. I think most people won't appreciate what he brought to this team until he's gone. I hope VG gets another chance with an improved team, or our next coach prepares as well and emphasizes hard-nosed defense along with a dynamic offense. Also, I notice some teams seem to have an all-star coaching staff, loaded with assistants who were good coaches elsewhere. I think this would be great for this team. I'd love to see JVG as head coach with an Adelman or a PJ Carlisimo or Tomjanovich or Del Harris or Mario Elie as an assistant. Someone to develop younger players and add flexibility and perspective on offense. This teams problems would disappear with an athletic PF and a reliable 1st option at PG. It hurts right now, but we are not that far off.
it's time for new thinking and rethinking and JVG nolonger fits the new job description. We need some major changes- a dedicated coach that gives all his players the chance to develop their talents in training and in playing time, especially rookie players who need the special help of personal coaching and encouragement. We need player personel selection to be done with greater care than in previous seasons of the Rocket's History. Never select a player who will be automatically ruled out by the coach. Never again should a player be selected because of one dunk over Yao Ming [ Stromile Swift]. possibly with Morey at the helm a more scientific way of selecting a player will control selectors romantic visions of player potential. We need to revamp our team, sentimentality must not be a consideration for keeping a player on our roster, measurement of talent and performance must be the prime criteria for selection, also compatibility with team make up is significant. We need to fill by addition or replacement two significant holes in our roster. Firstly the job of running the team needs to be taken out of McGrady's hands and placed into the hands of a playmaker Point guard who has skills. Secondly we need another tall strong and athletic Power Forward with skills that can help Yao Ming in the paint, a good rebounder and one who can score off missed shots. We need to look for youth, height and speed to be evident in most of our role players, never again should a 6'3" player be seen guarding a 6'10" player. We need our owner to be more willing to go the extra mile to bring another special player to the Rockets family. Not an oVER THE HILL player with years of reputation built over the previous ten years like Charles Barkley, when we brought him in. I mean some one like Ray Allen who still is playing at a high level We need to decide if we are going to develop V Span and Steve Novac, if not they should be traded or retired as fits the situation. Mutombo should retire and get on with his life, his family needs him! Howard and Lucas do not belong , and if possible should be in a package deal. All this is of course wishful thinking on my part, it's all got to come fom the heart of Les Alexander, so heres hoping that Les will have a clear mind and give the direction for new thinking, and that we will have a new look next season with greater talent than our present team.
The biggest mistake this team could make is firing Jeff and replacing him with a carbon copy like Rick Carlisle. I'm almost indifferent about Larry Brown but his offense is just as archaic. If Les is concerned about the defense, he needs to keep on one of the assistants.
How about we get Larry Brown then pick up Francis when the Knicks buy out his contract. Those two would love to be reunited.
I'm ecstatic to see JVG go. Bring in Del Harris or Adelman. I just wish Cassell had some coaching experience because I think he would be a great coach, but since that won't happen anytime soon.... Harris or Adelman. Unless we can steal Dunleavy from the Clips. Dunleavy shouldve had this job when we passed him up for freakin JVG. We would be Champs by now if he had the job.
Finally, we can say goodbye to JVG. He is a hardworking coach, but he reallt doesn't fit in this team.
well...outside of Yao and Tmac, we have no player who can create their own shot... now look at Utah, they basically have 4 all-stars (D.willams is an allstar pg by any measure). And their bench player didn't chock, unlike ours. so what do you expect? we had so many wide open looks, only ended up with bricks....still coach's fault?
