So I went into the kitchen about 2 hours ago for a glass of water and stepped in a puddle of it. I turned the lights on and there is water pouring out of the ceiling. Just freaking great. I've left 3 messages in the last 2 hours with the "24 hour maintenance" team, and heard nothing. My carpet is drenched and now I can hear the busted pipe so I can't just go back to bed. I guess 24 hour maintenance doesn't include days where people get drunk and don't do their jobs. Anyway, are you supposed to call a plumber in these situations if the property maintenance doesn't respond?
Dude.. I had a similar experience a few years ago... it took the apartment two weeks to finally fix the problem and eventually change out my carpet because of all the mold. eventually mold was growing on the walls and the apartment started to smell real bad. It was gross and really unsanitary... I suggest you take pictures of EVERYTHING right now..
I do not own a camera. Anyway, it's now after 4 and still no word. My carpet is already soaked and I'm cranky as hell. God help the office staff member I have to deal with in 5 hours.
Campus Condos, the worst effing management in the UT area. At a condo where I was living at the time we had the same problem in both the bedroom and the living room that continued for 4 months because at first they couldn't find the leak and then once they did.....they couldn't figure out which condo's piping the leak belonged to. So of course they did absolutely nothing until the "owner" of the leak could be determined, and finally it was but that other management company wouldn't take care of it. It leaked on and off for 4 months until half the ceiling collapsed and they had to go and replace the ceilng for the entire condo.
go ahead and call a plumber if u can find one at this hour and bill the management. they should pay for it if they have a soul but if they won't it, find all sorts of expensive crap that was already broken to say "water damage."
Update: The guy showed up at about 5 AM and patched the pipe. He reeked of alcohol. He said he'd come back today around noon to wet vac the carpet and clean up all the mess. Of course, it's almost one and no word from him. Anyway, while he was working he had the nerve to complain to me for calling. He said in some form of broken English something like "such a small leak, I was sleeping." Dude, my apartment was flooding. I was out of towels, my carpet is soaking wet, and I was interested in holding pans out and emptying them for the next 12 hours. I understand that his job is ****ty, but it's still his job.
