Stern Says Best Of Seven First Round Was Supposed To Prevent Upsets

In an interview with ESPN during Friday's game in New Jersey between the Nets and Raptors, David Stern was asked how he felt about the 8th seed Warriors defeating the top-seeded Mavericks.

"They were never supposed to," said Stern. "The four out of seven was supposed to make sure that the better team won."

Yeah, I forget what show it was, but I saw the interview where Stern said it. I think the article is probably taking it out of context a little bit. He's just saying that 7 games instead of 5 games in a series will inevitably reduce the number of upsets. It's just natural that the better team will win over the a seven game series -- I don't think he was dissing the Warriors.

I'm not sure if he said that or not. But you know thats what he wants, he wants the all-stars to advance to play each other.

did ya'll see the interview with d-stern, where they were asking him about the possibility of the sonics moving to las vegas. The reporter said, "seattle ownership has been reported to to say las vegas was a possiblity" stern replies "no they didn't" reporter replies "yes they did" stern replies " If they did, they were mistaken" and something along the lines of I will correct them.
the reporter jumped all over it and he quickly ended the interview by saying "lets have some fun this is the playoffs"

D-stern is a hair away from a dictator.

That was Jim Gray interviewing him live at the Oracle arena at game 4

Jim: Sonics new owner says they're moving to Vegas

Stern: He didn't say that, I don't believe he said that

Jim: Well his people just confirmed that, that is exactly what they are going to do

Stern: Well by tomorrow he will withdraw that

Just think about it logically, a 7 game series would detour the underdog from winning. And rightfully so. The Warriors werent the better team but they had the Mavs number. It happens.

Number of times a 1 has lost to an 8 in a seven game series: 1.

    :D

(but technically that means you're right)

It was a tongue-in-cheek shot at the critics who told him, with sound advice, that a 7-gamer opening series would eliminate any opening round upsets of the 1/8 order.

Context, cats, context. He was goofing.

It just means that the Warriors were a better team than Dallas.
