All the talk about needing help at the 5 made me wonder how Loren Woods has been doing. I know this is old, but did anyone notice that Woods had 6 blocks in Minny's second preseason game with Toronto and Dream? I know it's just one game, and preseason at that, but it'll be interesting to see how he pans out this year with all the concerns during the draft. I mean, we're still talking about someone projected to go late lottery who dropped to late 2nd round. I imagine if he's even decent, the TWolves will hold on to him for dear life. And the only one he has to beat out for a starting job is Nesterovic. Too bad, in my opinion. I have no regrets picking up Morris in the 2nd round, but I would have really liked to see Woods in a Rockets uni. He could easily give Morris a run for his money as the steal of the draft.
Loren Woods problem is mental toughness. He'll have good games, and then disappear for stretches at a time.
I've always been big on Loren Woods. This may sound weird, but I like him because he stayed all four years of college. He could have easily gone top five after his junior season, but wanted to stay with 'Zona one more year for a run at a title. People really underestimate the value of one more year of college hoops. The only thing he really lacks is confidence. If he had gone in the lottery, he'd be under the pressure to carry a bad team on his back. In Minnesota, though, he can chill behind KG and sharpen his offensive game without the added burden of playing on a losing team. Minnesota got a steal with Woods, and he'll prove to be a valuable commodity.
I know we got Morris to please Francis (which I'm totally cool with), but I would have rather had Woods. For as low as we Could have gotten him, it would have been a no risk situation. Second rounders arent guaranteed. I think we should have traded for another draft pick to get him or foregone the Morris pick. We could have had both of the projected top five guys that dropped. Oh well, spilled milk.
