Playoffs did expose a lot of things. Yao's weakness are now totally exposed. His strength really is his scoring. But his offense game becomes more and more one-dimensional. Okur summed it up already, it is very predictable. Right now, majority of his offense is that 6-7 feet jumpers. If it is not falling or opponents push him out of that position, he hardly has any ways to score. He was not like when he entered NBA. Right now, it is safe to say Amare has a better mid-range jumpers than Yao has. Two or three years ago, any jumpers or FT from Amare were pure joke. It is amazing how coach's style can change a player's game that much.
True, it is going to take a couple of playoff experience for him to get used to it. Of course there is no guarantee he could get used to it. Even Duncan was called soft some years ago when he played against Shaq. Dream was good because he spined away from the defender for the turnaround jumper, it is not blockable. The reason Shaq was so dominant is that even you hard-foul him, he can stil dunk. He can dunk with two defenders hanging on him. I haven't seen anybody else be able to do it. Yao is not a physical speciman, he never will play like Shaq. He has to rely on his fadaway. In playoffs, defenders are going to foul him and the referees are not going to call it for sure. So let's hope his fadaway can be as accruate as the dream-shake eventually.
Amare used a full season and off-season to work on his jumper while he rehabbed. Yao is pretty much relegated to being a low-post scorer. He probably forgot how to shoot mid-range jumpers since it seems like he's not allowed to.
i feel like Yao has regressed. I have to resist the urge to blame JVG but i know Yao is capable of more offensive damage if our play was not so predictable. SOmeone tell Yao he is the biggest, tallest mofo on the court and needs to start acting like it dammit!!!
Yao can dunk, but he only does it when nobody is under him. Even if he can do it with someone under him he doesn't. I don't understand. C'mon Yao
To say this means that you have no idea about the way Yao Ming can play and the way he can't play. He can't defend outsider shooters, he can't defend athletic players driving to the basket. He would like to but he would quickly be in foul trouble and of little help to the team.
do we care if okur sucks? he's not a superstar. yao is supposed to be the top 3 big man that utah has no answer for. apparently they don't fear him as they single covered him tonight the whole way. and yet yao ended up w/ 8 TOs. fadeaway after fadeaway. the only dunk he got were one he got away from boozer b/c he gambled and w/ tmac's penetration. he's the center version of dirk. cna't take advantage of midgets on ya. just shoot fadeaways all day every day.
You guys are pathetic, seriously. I wonder how many of you have actually played even somewhat competitively, or if all you bashers are pu&&ies sitting behind your almighty computers. Yao has had a bad series due to a tough matchup, but really, where do you think the Rox would be in this series if we didn't have Yao?? SWEPT 4-0. That's right, the series would be OVER. We need better from Yao, and we will get it. Though some of you scrubs don't deserve it. You all should go root for the Lakers.
I still don't think he is over his injury. Teams got physical with him before and it wasn't this bad. I hope some rest will get him right (after we win the ring of course)........
The last play by play could sum up the Rox's season: End of game. HOU 1.0 Yao Ming missed Mini Hook Shot
