Man, check out the water effects in this game. Amazing. Can't figure how to find the link to embed the flash from this site. http://www.1pstart.com/bioshock-actually-makes-water-look-badass/
They're taking it from Gametrailers, so you should go there if you want to embed it. Click the link for the non-HD video (on the second page right now), and then click the embed button for the code to paste here. Here it is: <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=19040"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=19040" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object> The developers had 1 or 2 guys dedicated to working on just the water effects over the last year or so IIRC.
you're clearly blind, or perhaps I'm just extremely observant (paid to look at these sort of things). there's about 14 or 15 completely different effects on each separate instance of their water.
I admit that there are some parts of the video where the water isn't all that impressive (compared to other games anyway), but there are some parts that are definitely amazing (usually when the water is running down a wall or something like that). Uh...sort of I guess, depending on what you mean by like. This is a FPS with RPG elements (like System Shock 1 and 2, which these guys also developed), so it isn't similar at all in that regard (the story isn't really alike either I suppose). The game definitely has some suspenseful and horrific/creepy moments as well as some puzzle-solving, so I guess it is "like" RE in that regard though. I can dig up some older videos if you guys are interested. There is probably like ~20 minutes of (gameplay) video for this game on the web. Along with these water effects, it seems to have some awesome AI.
It looks great in one frame, but when you're in the game, not sure how it really matters. Tricks like real time reflective lighting is cutting edge, but if they cheated, I wouldn't notice most of the time.
there is a LOT of water in this game, it's set underwater -- this is why they wanted the effects to be so believable. honestly, without question those water effects in certain places are hands down better than any other game.
Delving further into the game, it looks amazing and I'll play it, but I'm not sure if I'll like it. It's odd, because I haven't seen any gameplay trailers for it yet. The game can look beautiful, but if the gameplay doesn't match up, then it won't matter. I'm worried about it because the game seems to be very different than any game coming out and I have no clue what the gameplay will consist of. I'm definitely not into the Resident Evil type of gameplay (i.e. overzealously limiting what you can carry forcing you to run away a large chunk of the game). Well, in any event, we shall see. I'm actually looking forward more to Mass Effect...
Some info from Wikipedia that does good job of describing the game: Early Developer Walkthrough from September 06 (~15 minutes) <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=13290"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=13290" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object> CG Trailer <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=13584"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=13584" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object> Another Walkthrough (7 minutes) <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=17458"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=17458" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object> Two Recent Trailers <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=18120"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=18120" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=18133"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=18133" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object>

Pssshh.. what water effects? nothing to look at there, the water looks the same as the one in my neighborhood swimming pool...
Exactly. Could OTHER GAMES make it so? I'm sorry that the developers couldn't draw a t9rd on their game water... you did mean that as a joke, right?
