No sarcasm when i say I'm shocked...... Brandon Roy has won the award; But I completely disagree!!Bargnani has played a more than significant role in the success of the raptors and averaged 11.6 points a game playing 14 minutes less than the winner of this award.
ROY is more widely regarded as an award that goes to the best player...compared to the MVP...which considers success of the team more. the reason for this is because the best rookie is almost by definition drafted by a bad team and is often the best player on said bad team. Roy is on a bad team, but definitely helped them be more competitive than one would expect. He is also clearly the best player on that team. Roy has had a noticeable positive effect on Portland. I think it comes down to who is the best player between Bargnani and Roy and you should not take into consideration the success of Chris Bosh's team. I mean, we could bring into the discussion whether Toronto be better off with Roy or Bargnani, for instance, but why not just stick with the player stats and our own eyes. Roy is ROY, imo.
Roy was the better choice. Bargnani played well, but Roy was the go-to guy for the blazers this year. He also stepped it up when Randolph was out.
This would actually be a tough choice, well not tough, but you could look at it both ways: 1. Brandon Roy because he's a great PG, can shoot, score, drive, etc. He'll probably be a premier player in the league someday. 2. Bargnani because he has the 3 ball range we need at PF to spread out the D...great shooter, will flourish with open shots. Pretty tough if you ask me. Bargnani has more potential, Roy has more talent right now though.
this year i'd rather have had roy but bargnani is definitely a nice player. raptors made no mistake with that pick. roy is hands down rookie of the year though.
thats the difference...bargnani is a role player this year...roy was the team after randolph went down. they beat the jazz and beat us at home.
and plus how can you not go with someone who's last name is the award?! haha just kidding.. but i think Roy was a good pick for this years rookie of the year. Sure bargnani made the playoffs, but Roy's all around game was a lot better
Roy deserved the award. He played great in the few games I've seen him play. He basically became the go-to option for the Blazers in the final games of the season. Bargnani was better than I thought and he's got a nice stroke, but now he's still a role player coming off the bench for the Raps.
SHOCKED??? Come on now Bargnani is a one trick pony, he cant impact the games like BRANDON ROY ( ROOKIE OF THE YEAR SON! Thats what his last name Represents...
i thought it was pretty obvious. B-roy is/was the better player this year. bargs did start to come on late, but b-roy had an immediate impact and he even became the teams go to player. i still wished that trade had gone through with the rockets.
Another feather in the hat of Carroll Dawson and JVG.. both of whom said the only guy they were targeting in the draft was Roy...
after the bashing that steven A smith and the others gave Bargnani,I was schocked that not more votes went in Bargnanis favor. He is just as good as Roy playing In a better team =/.Guys don't send me hate mail for my opinion http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/sports/1178162727300361.xml&coll=7 Lone voter against Roy receives hate mail Thursday, May 03, 2007JASON QUICK Chuck Swirsky, the only person who didn't vote for Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy as Rookie of the Year, said he is receiving hate mail because of his decision to vote for Toronto's Andrea Bargnani. Swirsky, the play-by-play television announcer for the Raptors, voted for Bargnani while listing Roy second on his ballot. Bargnani, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the June draft, finished second in the balloting by a panel of 128 sportswriters and broadcasters. "This is not an anti-Brandon Roy thing, I hope people understand that," Swirsky said Wednesday from Toronto. "This was strictly a case of me seeing Bargnani day after day. He was a significant player on a playoff team." Because of Swirsky's vote, Roy missed becoming the third unanimous winner of the award, which first was accomplished by Houston's Ralph Sampson (1983-84) and later by San Antonio's David Robinson (1989-90). Swirsky has long revealed his vote, and reasoning, posting an entry on his blog on raptors.com, as well as rationalizing his pick earlier this week in an e-mail to The Oregonian. His e-mail was posted as a blog entry on OregonLive.com. Since then, Swirksky said he has received hundreds of e-mails from Blazers fans. In fact, after Wednesday's voting was revealed, showing his as the only non-Roy vote, Swirsky said he received more than 300 e-mails in a four-hour span. "I can understand why people are frustrated, but I don't understand why people are so hate-centered," Swirsky said. "It's been borderline disgusting." Swirsky, who has worked for the Raptors for nine seasons, rationalized his vote by saying that Bargnani played a significant role on a team that won a franchise-record 47 games and made the playoffs. He also said Bargnani -- who averaged 11.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists -- didn't have more eye-popping statistics because he was the fourth option on a Toronto team with Chris Bosh, T.J. Ford and Anthony Parker. "Had he played on a team that was rebuilding, and where he was the number one or two option, Bargnani would have easily averaged 17 points a game, no question in my mind," Swirsky said. "I know a lot of people think I did this because I work for the Raptors, but in my heart, I know I was doing it for the right reasons. In my heart, I know I voted for the right player." Last season, New Orleans/Oklahoma City guard Chris Paul also was a near-unanimous selection. Only Utah television analyst Ron Boone didn't list him first. Like Swirsky, Boone chose a player from his team, Jazz guard Deron Williams.
