Why doesn't Yao use his face-up jumper more?

I was thinking of the same thing earlier today. With a physical defender like Okur and help on the weak side by AK-47, it's a shame Yao has only resorted to his backing down move. Like everyone has already mentioned, his post moves are very predictable even by average audience standard. If you've watched enough Rox games in the past (as I have), depending on which side of the goal he catches his ball, I know exactly what he's going to do before he even does it.

Game 6 is going to be crucial and the team needs Yao to hit a higher FG% in order to pull out a win in Salt Lake. Like everyone have mentioned, he needs to mix his moves up a little. Get off a few mid-range face up jumpers even if he shoots it at a lower percentage than his fadeaways. At least this way, you can keep your defender on his heels.

He used to hit those all the time in the Rudy T days.

They are fouling him low on almost every jumper (of any kind) he takes

THe bottom line is he's tired..he can make those turnaround jumpers if he wasn't. I hate it when he tries to post up in terrible positions. 6 of his baskets were inside the paint...HELLO Yao!! Go deeper in the paint...if u establish good position then think of shooting!..dont think of shooting when ur so far away from the basket! post up and think of passing!! and he should also conserve energy..he tried to do too much and he gets tired apparently because it's a long series and he's 7;6 and there's 3 stooges jazz players who are attacking on him and defending him and doubling him etc. The thing is, he could fix it if he conserved some energy, and got in better positions and made better decisions. Hopefully he bounces back in game 6, or im pretty sure it's going to game 7

you can see ewings influence on yao - basically yao plays like ewing used to play like: face up jumpers, turn around jumpers and power moves...very predictible and boring....Although he does use the jumphook more than Ewing ever did....

Yao needs to take a leaf out of Olajuwon, some think that Dream could only be effective with his moves because of his quickness but he did have the greatest arsenal of moves in NBA history which made his so unpredictible...If Yao had the same moves, even with his lack of quickness, he could also be less predictible...By incorporating up and unders, fakes and drop steps he would be much more effective.....
