They are undoubtedly the most physical team in the playoffs this year. We've struggled offensively and defensively against them because they play a team game on both ends of the floor. In all honesty, their offense is a beautiful thing to watch sometimes since it contains some elements of the Princeton offense with its back cuts. Their defense is hard nosed, they dont give easy layups and they close out on the perimeter execeptionally well. Why is this a good thing? Because if we can beat them, there is no other team that will outhustle, out work and outdefend the Jazz. If we can figure out a way to move past this team, we will be that much more stronger and experienced. You know what they say, what kills you only makes you stronger.
I agree. The Jazz are physical and dirty. Everyone on the court hustles on every play, they make you work for every pass, every shot, every rebound. They get up in your face and defend, they send help quickly, they crash the boards, they screen better than any other team in the league, and in addition to their flops, they take real charges. On offense they execute really well, so you can't take any time off on the court or you're giving up a clear path to the goal. In fact, other than the flopping, the Jazz play a style that I really like to watch. Playing a series like this must be tiring, but if you make it out, you know that it's the worst you'll see. (Don't get me wrong, Golden State, Phoenix, and San Antonio present their own challenges.)
If the Rockets win Thursday, they'll have one nut drop and their 1st round cherry popped. The other nut hopefully would be the Phoenix/SA series.
I have much respect for the Jazz this series. They're tough and aren't giving in easily. Basketball-wise, these games have been butt-ugly, but it's been quite a good brawl.
In what I've seen of the GS games, the Warriors look just as, if not more physical, than the Jazz. However, Utah is a much better team than I game them credit for going into the playoffs. They are a tough, tough team physcially and mentally. If we win the first round, playing the Jazz will have been great prep for the Warriors in round 2.
Speaking of physical play, something occurred to me during last night's game. I wonder if Yao does any exercises to strengthen his grip. If he doesn't, he should. His hands must be huge. It has just been too easy for Utah to knock the ball out of his hands.
Part of that has to do with the fact that he has small hands fotr a guy his size and part of that has to do with the refs allowing the Jazz to be physical with him on the entry pass and when he has the ball in his hands.
