personalities are too different. not good chemistry to me. Lance = funny Mark = not funny Lance = semi realist will explode if teams deserve it Mark = homer (to the iraqi minister of information level)
. 610 just gets less and less bearable these days. Even though Charlie is with 790 they're not much better. I really just train the dial on whoever talks about the Rockets the most. Seeing as it is playoff time I've been listening to the 97.5 afternoon program and even though we're not talking about CP encyclopedia type knowledge they have dedicated most of their shows to the Rockets. It's really small potato topics like is Yao dominant etc. But I don't care about the other sports franchises so really that suits me better. Mcclain is unlistenable for obvious reasons. When John even so much as attempts to talk Rockets(which is rare and even less interesting when Vandermeer regurgitates what he reads) he likes to talk more about the crowd or people he's seen at the games which leaves me thinking wtf most of the time. Even though I'm not into baseball being in Houston you have to bear through enough of them so if you have to hear someone talk about them at least it's someone who knows what they're talking about. John is a football guy through and through so I understand that. However if he's going to have his own morning show he could attempt to understand the other sports a little better. I wish they would put him out to pasture during the NFL off-season but I understand the draft and all. BUT STILL . . . Lance is great. I enjoy listening to him because even though his expertise is fantasy football, dude can handle the other topics very well. He's funny without a lot of the eye rolling commentary you get from Vandermeer. I wish Matt and Adam would skip to 790 or 97.5 but I like listening to them on my drive home. The best combo on radio by a mile but that prime time slot doesn't do them justice. Adam strikes me as the closest to Charlie P you'll get outside of the real mcCoy. Matt is the real entertainment of the show and his knowledge of the Rocks far exceeds anyone else on the station. They deserve better than that time slot.
from the Chronicle TV-RADIO NOTEBOOK Thanks to settlement, Granato free of KILT By DAVID BARRON Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle John Granato will leave KILT (610 AM), effective today, under the terms of an out-of-court settlement reached Sunday night in his lawsuit against CBS Radio, KILT's parent company. Attorneys concluded the agreement just over a week after Granato filed suit against CBS Radio, accusing the company of breaching his contract and asking a Harris Country district court to dismiss the non-compete clause that would prevent him from working on air for six months at another Houston radio station after leaving KILT. "John Granato and CBS Radio have agreed that John will no longer work for KILT-AM," the parties said in a statement Sunday night. "John is voluntarily dismissing his lawsuit against CBS Radio and is no longer contesting the enforceability of his non-compete agreement." Terry W. Yates, Granato's attorney, said today will be Granato's last day of employment with KILT, but he will not appear on-air. Terms of the agreement will remain confidential, and Granato, whose contract was to expire Nov. 30, had no public comment on his decision to settle the suit and leave KILT. "John is appreciative of the 10 years he had at Sports Radio 610 and wants to thank his loyal listeners over those years," Yates said. "He also wants to thank his good friend Lance Zierlein, who he has really enjoyed working with." Yates said Granato had no immediate plans other than to "spend quality time with his family and play a lot of golf. Then we'll see what happens." He said Granato would continue to appear on Astros-related programming on KNWS (Channel 51). Marc Vandermeer will work today's morning show with Zierlein. John McClain will work today's afternoon-drive shift in Vandermeer's stead alongside Rich Lord. KILT officials did not return calls seeking information on how long Vandermeer will work mornings or to detail how the station's daily lineup would change in the wake of Granato's departure. Michael McCabe, a Dallas attorney representing CBS Radio, also declined comment on the case. Sunday's developments ensure the Granato-Zierlein team has officially come to an end — Zierlein took off last week to prepare for the NFL draft, so their last show together was April 20 — one month shy of its 10th anniversary. While Granato isn't talking publicly about options, one possibility could be to join a reformatted KILE (1560 AM) later this year. KILT's former general sales manager, Richard Topper, will be general manager of KILE, which reportedly will add the syndicated Erich "Mancow" Muller show as part of a "guy talk" format.
Who called him out? I agree Marc is nutz especcially when he is alone and juiced up on coffee. But that makes it all the better. I love it when he goes on long rants. Anyone remember when he said Dave Harbison does not like him?
"OK it's trailor time" "Open your paper up to page A8 and check out the trailor wheel and frame ad" Do you see what it says? "End of year blowout" It's January 15th, "how stupid are these people" I don't know what any of this crap is but if you do than go to trailor wheel and frame because if they are stupid enough to have a end of year sale in January I'm sure you can get over on them for a low price. "Just make sure you get there by noon because anytime after that they will probally be drunk" lol classic
For what it's worth, John Granato was directly behind me at the Rockets game last night. He seemed in very good spirits and spent the entire game verbally abusing Steve Javie. LOL
I agree with every single word EXCEPT for the comments about listening to the afternoon guys on 97.5. Their pathetic Rockets (and general NBA) knowledge when they first came on lost me and I won't give them another chance any time soon. Maybe they sound more intelligent by now since the playoffs are in progress. Matt and Adam are the best and CP needs a co-host on 790.
I think Charlie's show would suffer with a co-host. There is not another radio personality in Houston that is prepared or entertaining as Pallilo. MattJ and Adam do deserve a better time slot. 790 needs to change up that morning show. That show just flat out sucks. Everytime I switch the radio station just to hear what is going on they are always just talking about non sports related stuff. It is especially irritating when Maggie starts talking about her entertainment news. Davies is the worst.
Even with CP on the air late in the afternoon, 790 is unsalvageable. I wonder if the change in ownership of Clear Channel will cause them to end the failed 790 "sports animal" experiment.
If CC bails on 790 (it wouldn't be surprising with Ken Charles leaving - he was hell bent on competing with 610), Palillo could re-join Lord and all would be right with the sports universe again.
