First of all, I've been totally against giving VSpan any real time this season because he hasn't shown that he deserves it with no outside shot and being WAY too turnover-prone.

That being said, he could very well be the X-factor in this series.

Offensively, he brings exactly what the Rockets lack against the Jazz defense especially with no one able to hit an outside shot - a guy that can beat his man off the dribble, get inside the defense and either finish, get fouled or set up others for easier shots.

Defensively, he has the "Harpring-esque" mentality and plays bigger which could throw Deron Williams off a little bit. I'm not knocking Rafer, I think he is doing a decent job, but he is a little too small and gets bumped off easily by Williams.

Anyway, I highly doubt JVG will play him and maybe that is the right move as I said because he didn't earn a rotation spot throughout the year.

But, the things that he brings to the table seems to really matchup well with Utah IMO.

I agree. He doesnt need a ton of minutes, but he deserves the minutes Lucas got tonight. I think he could give us a spark like Boki did vs the Lakers a few years ago.

he obviously needs to play over lucas. he's the only one on the team that has a chance to stay with Deron williams....he also gives us a flopper in the game, which we dont have

I agree with what you are saying but it ain't gonna happen. VSpan should have been played and developed during the regular season. It's too late at this point.

I've said it a hundred times though. In the playoffs, the defenses rotate much better and they can take away the 3 point shot or at least cause the shooters to have to hurry their shot and their percentages go down significantly. That's exactly what is happening to Rafer, Luther and company right now. You've got to be able to take it to the rack and finish and neither Rafer or Luther has a chance at that. All it leads to is turnovers.

I know VSpan throws up some turnovers but he is gonna get finishes and he is going to draw fouls and he is going to dish. It is very unfortunate that he wasn't given more minutes during the regular season to be able to contribute in the rotation now.

Our offense is fatally flawed without a 3rd player able to go to the rack when the defense is closing out the shooters and doubling down everytime Yao shoots it.

Not to mention, Rafer, Luther, and now Lucas have been a complete joke defensively.

yeah lets disregard the overall success of the 82 regular season games and the rotations and players used in those games and go with a guy with no NBA experience who whines about his playing time rather than work harder......

and lets not forget Utah is actually a pretty good team and a very good home record

nah buck it lets just all just spontaneously over-react, fire JVG and we can have the BBS coach the team with one of the assistants using a laptop on the bench to convey the BBS's random/knowledgeless thoughts to the players during the game

Let's not and try this, so we can get someone that might be able to stop penetration from Deron and have someone that can get to the basket/free throw line (Snyder)...

    Mcgrady
    Snyder
    Battier
    Hayes
    Yao

I disagree that now is the time. Now if we see the same type of play on Monday night during the game, why the hell not try it? Game 5 essentially decides the series in my mind, so if it looks like you're going to lose it anyway...

Just because he made a couple of good plays when the game was over does not count.

But if the alternative is giving Lucas minutes, then yes, play Spanoulis.

I still think we will win this series but my championship hopes are definitely over. We just need more players. Offseason needs to be better than ever.

i don't now about that. That would only work if he was used very sparingly and was under strict instructions to just drive and defend. NO passing and NO shooting. he could be about there for maybe 3-4 minutes a quarter from second quarter onwards. But Vspan being Vspan he' ll try some crazy pass and be back to the bench in no time.

True. I think JVG is a good coach but one of his faults is his loyalty when it comes to players/rotations. Alston was impressive in the 1st but really fell off afterward. Lucas was atrocious every second out there and was just lost in the offense. Billy is the only guy outside of Yao/Tracy that can create his own shot AND finish at the rim.

Let's force Sloan to adjust to us for once.

If you wanted to use Spanoulis whatsoever in the postseason, the time to start using him was about 70 games ago. I don't think he's any solution to what we're facing right now... but even if he could be, JVG has seen to it that he has zero NBA experience.

Why no passing? He has good court vision. He has some turnovers but he makes a lot of really good passes.

i have laughed all season when you guys would make posts all season about how v-span should play. i dont think he deserved any minutes at all, but at this point i wouldnt mind him having john lucas minutes if he can bring any kind of fire and passion at all to this team.

But its not like he has never played at the pro level before. He has a tone of professional experience in Europe. He clearly can contribute even at a minimum level. He has had the ability the whole season, just never given the oppourtunity. Why not give him Lucas's minutes?
