If Rafer is a mediocre PG, that means Luther Head must be an absolutely abysmal PG.

Nope. Luther Head isn't a point guard at all. Luther Head is a pretty good (at least in the regular season) miniature shooting guard.

Really? His defense on Deron the first two games of the series was pretty damn good. Are we watching the same game? He didn't play well last night but who did (like you said).

I'm far from the only Rafer supporter here. There are plenty that like him and plenty that don't. Like i've said in past posts, I can definitely respect the criticism of Rafer's shooting. However, don't throw Mike James at me as a great option. He can't manage on ANY team because of his attitude. Listen to his comments after his season with the Wolves. he didn't work with Yao and Tracy, he didn't work with KG, you see a pattern developing here? I want a guy like Atkins not a ball hog who thinks he's Kobe like Mike James. I would take Francis back way before I would touch Mike James.

It's interesting to look at player's off court +/-. That is, our point differential when a particular player is off the court. The smaller, the better.

    Code:
player OFF COURT Net (per 100 possessions)
        Yao +3.4
        McGrady +1.6
        [B]Alston -3.2[/B]
        Battier +2.7
        Hayes +1.3
        Head +11.1
        Howard +9.8

Some people don't recognize that. Only some people see floor genralship and the ability to run an offense. I'm not insulting anyone with that comment just to clear things up, I simply feel it's the truth.

Um isn't it obvious that Rafer's +/- is high because there are no other PGs on this team.

Rafer Alston did play bad in many games, but he's the best PG in this team at present. We have no choice.
And he's not the only one that should be blamed for G3 loss. Nobody played well in this game. Yao had beautiful 26pts and 14rbs, but also had terrible 8 turnovers. Also he's not aggressive enough and his shooting percentage was much lower than that of regualr season. Tmac played terribly in the last 3 qrs with terrrible field percentage. Luther, Howard and other benchers contributed unbelievable 0 pts. Also we had many more turnovers and far less offensive rebounds than Jazz in this loss.
BUt I believe that Rox can improve in these aspects in G4 and make it 3-1 after Saturday.

JVG was 4th in coach of the year balloting and numerous players have said how great a coach he is. Then again, posters on the internet clearly are more qualified to make that assessment. JVG is a good coach, plain and simple. His players love him and he has respect around the league. Saying he sucks as a coach makes you look foolish

He's supposed to be our PG when Rafer is off the floor. He just sucks at it.

Yes, which makes him very valuable to the team, and highly under-valued by all the fans who whine about Rafer getting so many minutes.

    he sucks for this team

    plain and simple,

like I said he does some good things, but not enough IMO

Utah will loose this series because they could not handle their last 6-7 regular season games and lost their homecourt

we ain't going nowhere with JVG and Alston, they are just not enough

Alston worked hard and he had good defense skills. He is not perfect. But he is good comparing with his salary. Our problem is Juwan. Considering his salary, Juwan is much worse than Alston.

i dont need to defend him. He is what he is. Its no secret. He has his flaws and he has his strong points.

I just think its a little silly to start a complete thread calling rafer out and piling on the guy. Might as well start one for every player on the team b/c they all played like crap. Singling out rafer just doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

Rafer was one of the only guys making some plays in the 4th quarter, hit a 3 and caused a few turnovers.

Because all you And1-show lovers thought that being "Skip To My Lou" would actually bring some VALUE to our team  . Now you're crying your *sses off saying we don't need him. Where's your "skip" now?

Granted, I didn't know whom this guy was before we traded for him, but when the news broke out, all of you were so ecstatic. WTF for?

Anyway, don't blame it all on Rafer, 'cuz it's not all about him... it's a TEAM EFFORT... you are the same dudes blaming Carr for all the Texans' losses. It's a TEAM, mo' fo's.

If at all, blame it on everyone not helping as a support cast for TMac and Yao. :(

one more thing. People are ridiculing his defense, but deron has been held relatively in check. (i.e. avging less pts, less assts, more t/os and 36% shooting)

Take a look around ... there is one for every single player on the team.

if Deron wants to pass by him, he will do that..their main options are Boozer and Okur, but IMO the defense was not our porblem last night, it was offense, we did suck as a team
