You mean should we try and obtain a player who: A) got tossed from a PLAYOFF game against the Mavericks because he couldn't keep his composure? or, B) ran into the stands at Detroit and participated in the one of the ugliest scenes in NBA history? or, C) fired his gun several times outside an Indy nightclub while already on probation? You're kidding, right?
I love the game Stephen Jackson brings, but he simply would have no place on this team. He just doesn't fill the sixth man role as nicely as you would want when you're taking a risk on such a headcase.
It is an odd thing to see fans not focusing their energy on a team who is up 2-0 in the first round of ongoing playoffs. I hope and pray that this playoff run will be going on for quite some time. Until I know exactly what happens and who does what in this playoff run, I am going to concentrate on that, and not about some silly off-season trade. Even if you want to trade folks no matter what happens in the playoffs you might wait until after they are over to see how much value the Rockets have to offer. I bet Chuck Hayes would bring more value now than at the end of the regular season. Things happen. Either way, it is annoying.
I don't even care how volatile Stephen Jackson is. The reason I wouldn't want to trade for Stephen Jackson is that he plays Small Forward and I'm more than happy with our SF/SG depth. We need to be pursuing point guards and/or power forwards.
Amen to that. Though more depth everywhere woudl be a plus. BUt what is this rumor I hear. Why would GS want to get rid of SJax all of a sudden? They're not going to win a championship anytime soon, but at least make the playoffs more than once every 13 years.
He could be the most talented-player, but his history says he's trouble. I would go as far as to say he was more disruptive to the Pacers than Artest, not by a lot mind you. We don't need anyone like that on the Rockets. Stuart
If this came up before we got Battier, I would have said yes; but now no...we have enough depth at the SG/SF spot. I don't mind his attitude, I think this team can use a little toughness...but him coming to Houston would mean no one can go out Saturday nights and be safe! And above all, if we are going to add another SG/SF I would rather sign Grant Hill...
Wow, we never learn from history do we? Can someone name me a well-known 'head-case' who eventually became 'normal' for a decent amount of time?
No matter how you critique Streaky Jax's game, he has proved that he can help you win a championship and he won't just lay down or back down. He has height and length and can hit the long ball in crunchtime. He's not a superstar but good enough to be a 3rd scorer. He'll play defense especially if the coach demands it and I think he's worth looking at. His driving might be a bit out of control, but so is Luther Head's. He has proven he can be a piece to a championship.
He left because he wanted more money. He and Ginobili were good friends, and that is why he signed with Atlanta$$$$$ Remember how he came into the league. He had to work his way into a nice contract.
Jackson would be interesting, but I'd rather throw a full MLE at Nocioni (or offer a pick to the Bulls since he is restricted). Much of the same passion, size and scoring ability from the wing in a little headier and younger package. Pietrus or Barnes off GS are other cheaper, younger, possibilities and a free agents. But Jackson for Sura + Wells (if he doesn't opt out) or Snyder if our other FA targets havn't panned out--sure I'll do it. We are just trying to figure how to bring reinforcements for the repeat. As long as we are not talking about trading current Rocket rotation players trying to win a title (I think they deserve better with their effort and results), I don't have a problem with trade/FA talk.
From a talent standpoint I'll take him anyday. But because he's a headcase he's a liability that I wouldn't take a chance on, esp with a disciplinary coach like JVG.
