Exactly. He doesn't need to throw it in the strike zone. Hell, he never has, really. 2IP, 3H (2 were weak), 0BB, 4K last 2 times out. Lots of good, hard sliders in the dirt, got Ks on at least 2 of those. Signs of life.
Stros finally put good wood on the ball with men on base, and it's smoked right at Bay. Can't buy a break.
I can't see the game here in Austin, were his fastballs low and on the corners? How was the location on his fastballs? DD
They weren't pin-point on the corners, but they weren't down the middle either. But the thing with his fastball is... when he's throwing the good slider that hitters can't tell is a fastball or not, it will eat them up even if its not in a good location (the slightest hesitation by the batter doesn't allow them to catch up to 96mph). If he's not throwing the good slider... they lay off it, and the fastball (as we all know) is very hittable when they have nothing else to worry about. The key is the slider... always has been, always will be. Its the only pitch that makes him "special".
You can complain about Ensberg not hitting the ball to the right side, sure. He's certainly looked like **** at the plate tonight.
Ensberg isn't a slugger who has rarely put down a bunt in his career. He also pulled the ball instead of advancing the runner.
he certainly is. tried to tell you, garner doesnt let him, berkman, lee, lane sac bunt. here you go bobrek. ask and you shall receive: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=2862385&postcount=108 was the first instance since then it has presented itself from what i've seen.
Berkman, Lee and Lane are different type of hitters than Ensberg. Also, they have bunted over runners in the late inning games against Cincy, and specifically Milwaukee last friday (the speed on the bases allowed the sac bunt to load the bases... for Biggio).
unreal ... losing on a bad throw from C to 2B. Ridiculous Edit: Well nice play by Adam to correct the mistake. That worked out ok.
