No... but who are these guys who are often on base when the leadoff hitter comes up? Everett? Ausmus? Pitcher? On most teams, its not a concern if your leadoff guy is a groundball hitter (which Burke isn't, neccessarily)... but on this team, its even less of a concern. Also, I'll take my chances with Burke hitting into less DP's than Biggio.
This is just awful to watch, I just turned off the tv. Man, suddenly this team can't score a run, I don't know what the problem is with this guys. This use to happen every year, every dammned year, this is frustrastring when you are a real fan.
We need this game in the worst way. Great job by Bidge with the big hit. We've got to find a way to take this in extras.
In other words if they read it is coming and don't swing at it, and force him to throw his fastball, he is VERY hittable. He rarely throws the slider for a strike. DD
And if my uncle had breasts... n/m. Yes, its only good if the other team swings at it. But when he's throwing it like he should, they WILL swing. They don't recognize it as easily if he's throwing it right.
When he throws it right, they can't "read it"... that's the point. Lidge's best sliders aren't the ones that go in the dirt right off the release... they're the ones that have the late break as soon as it enters the zone, and dissapears.
