Extract from JONATHAN FEIGEN article in chron.com "I think just like with children, many times warnings are very ineffective," Van Gundy said. "Either you have the right players and you have the right coach, or you don't. Either you have the maturity level to you to know what we're facing, or you don't. Either you're mentally strong and physically tough enough to absorb all that you're going to absorb throughout a series, throughout a playoff stretch, or you're not. You say, 'Watch out!' I don't think (that) is really effective. Don't you guys think that JVG is taking a jab at most of us, Rox fans. I thought probably more than 50% of the tread since we went 2-0 up falls into 'Watch out' category. LOL
Oh, come on! Don't take it out of contest: But in best-of-seven playoff series going into this season, teams with 2-0 leads are 182-11. In 78 of those series, the teams with the 2-0 leads won Game 3. None have then lost the series. Yet Van Gundy said that if it is necessary to remind a team that two wins are not enough in a best-of-seven series, the reminder would not help, and could even invite a self-fulfilling prophecy of danger. "I think just like with children, many times warnings are very ineffective," Van Gundy said. "Either you have the right players and you have the right coach, or you don't. There are many negatives to my personality, but the one thing that I don't think I can be accused of is complacency. I think that serves all of us well."
i agree with van gundy. just two years ago we were up 2-0 and lost the series. we're 2-0 right now, but after we take a trip to utah it very well may be 2-2. honestly im not impressed with the team because we don't look scary. jazz have just been playing bad. they will turn it up and we'll see from there.
Oh come on, the way we have behaved is exactly what JVG pointed out, we fans wanted to be like any caring parent trying to point out the danger ahead. We think we are smarter than the players or NBA coaches, worry that they might be oblivios to the glaring danger lying ahead. Please, these are NBA players earning millions they are not retart they see the danger as we sees it and as JVG pointed out plus what we know about him, he is absolutely the last person who will be complacent. I think the next thing in JVG mind if ROX win the championship is how to defend it the following year. In the meanwhile, we fans should just sit back, relax and enjoy the show. ps- though I understand many fans might want to pre-empt a loss and the right to say 'I told you but you never listen' or better still 'they listen to me and so they won'

If we played bad and Jazz played we won. If we play well and Jazz play well we will still win, no? The question is what do we expect? Do we expect a win (which is what was achieved so far) or do we expect a drubbing like the one given to the Sixers? That is good reason why Sixers isn't in the play-off playing in the weak easter conf and Jazz is the 5th best team in the west.
i wouldn't say he's directing that to us, since I'm sure he does not care for all "series victory" threads but more of just letting us know the series is not over, and the players have to come out there and compete and finish the series
wow 182-11.. cant beleive we were one of those 11!! but yea, JVG is just saying what he has to say to keep his players mentality right. althought he really doesn't have to, since our team is full of class an professionalism, its good of him to always make sure the right words are being said.
wow it's amazing what some people's minds do. jvg isn't directing his comments at fans at all. just seems like he's saying there's nothing he can say to his team to make them understand that being up 2-0 isn't the same as winning the series. you either get it or you don't, and that's true. how this has anything to do with fans is beyond me. if anything, jvg agrees with fans in that he wishes there was something he could do to warn his team, he's tried, but it won't work. if you need more clarification i can break down his analogy for you: team = children jvg = parent fans = not even in this analogy
I hate seeing this. People say this as to mean, "watch out, there's a possibility we will play even better than we have already." But potential that is realized on an inconsistent basis is worthless. 4 games of "not playing up to your potential" and you're sitting at home again. Greatness doesn't come from having potential, it comes from consistent execution and delivery. And that's why the last two games are troubling, because if we haven't been "playing up to our potential" then will that magically happen the next game as a law of averages? No, the best way for a team to play up to its potential for the next game, is if it has already been doing so consistently for the last 10 games. Then its just business as usual.. Anyway, I'm not trying to be a downer, I love the Rox, glad we're up 2-0 right now. But I agree with Van Gundy - I'm realizing he's a pretty smart guy.
Actually, he might be taking a shot at himself. Against Dallas, when we were up 2-0, JVG made it a point to recall how Houston got the name "Clutch City" -- Phoenix was up 2-0 in 1994 and eventually lost the series in 7. That turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy, and we lost that series in pretty much the exact same way as Phoenix lost in 1994.
