Mitchell has named the Coach of the year. I don't get it. I should be JVG, our Rockets coach. For what Rox has been achieved so far disregarding the injuries of Yao and T-mac in the season. Both Mitchell and Johnson lost their first playoff game at home. Sloan lost was beaten by us in the first two games. http://www.nba.com/news/mitchell_coachofyear_070424.html Man, JVG is not even in top 3.
What is more insulting, that JVG came in a distant 4th or that Isiah actually received 1 vote? Whoever voted for Isiah should be stripped of his voting previleges for the rest of his life.
I'm from Toronto. Mitchells is the only reason I don't like Raptors. Well, of course, JVG is not the only reason i like Rockets.
Even t-mac said it was the team defense saved our ass when the two stars are not shooting well. Who developed these team defense? I think it's JVG.
i agree, the Regular season MVP should be Dirk. Mavs has an awesome record. And apparently they won't give to Nash again. However, this Dirk guy seems likely to collapse in the playoff, particularly in decisive moments
Remember when the Dream didn't win MVP, but everyone thought he deserved it ... then he schooled David Robinson sick? Hopefully, JVG will do the same during the playoffs ... maybe he'll use it to motivate himself even more.
I think this bolded bit is telling of how great JVG is as a coach. JVG is no "franchise restructuring" or "build mode" kind of coach. He's a playoff and championship level coach who knows how to coach championship players... Source: http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rockets_wonrsquot_relax_afte-222648-34.html Rockets won't relax after seizing 2-0 series lead Notes: McGrady has freedom to shoot, Boozer creates havoc HOUSTON -- The Rockets aren't exactly ready to declare their first round playoff series against the Utah Jazz over after seizing a 2-0 lead. Despite gaining an early cushion in the best of seven series, the Rockets are fully aware that the series can swing into Utah's favor beginning with Game 3 Thursday night in Salt Lake City. The Rockets have, after all, only taken care of their home-court advantage in the first two games. "We can't get comfortable," Rockets forward Chuck Hayes said. "Just as quick as it's been 2-0 for us, it can easily be tied 2-2 after we go to Salt Lake City. We can't get comfortable and we can't get content. We have a great group of veterans who will lead us the way and the coaching staff is going to make sure that we don't get comfortable." The Rockets have leaned on their two stars -- Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming -- to bury the Jazz in the first two games. Besides averaging 54.5 points in the series, McGrady and Yao have attempted a combined 43 free throws. That's nine more than all of the Jazz have attempted in the same span. Boosting Houston's cause is the fact that the Rockets have shut down everyone not named Carlos Boozer and limited the Jazz to 19.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Still, the Rockets don't feel like that's reason to start feeling good about their position. Hayes pointed out that the Rockets have trailed at halftime in both games and that Houston hasn't exactly been putting on a shooting clinic in the series. "It doesn't feel like (we're in command)," Hayes said. "If you at the first games, the shooting was ugly in the first half, the play in the first half was ugly and they've led. But we got our superstars and we picked up our defensive intensity." The Jazz have never recovered from 2-0 playoff series deficit in eight tries in franchise history, but the Rockets couldn't hang on to their most recent 2-0 lead. During the 2005 playoffs, the Rockets watched the Dallas Mavericks rally from a 2-0 hole to win the first round series in Game 7. Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy, however, doesn't put much stock in what's happened in the past. "We don't need to focus backwards or get too far ahead of ourselves," Van Gundy said. "We just need to have a good day of practice on Wednesday and play better on Thursday." Let him rip: Before a reporter could finish posing a question regarding his streaky shooting through the first two games of the playoffs, Tracy McGrady interrupted the inquiry. He just wanted to make sure everyone knew the obvious. "I'm going to keep shooting it," McGrady said with a laugh. "I'm a rhythm shooter. If I hit one or two in good rhythm, from that point on, I don't think I'm going to miss the rest of the night." McGrady, who is averaging 27 points, is shooting 37 percent from the filed and 30.8 percent from three-point range in the series. During the first two games of the series, the Rockets swingman has started off cold before finding his rhythm in the third quarter. Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said he gives McGrady freedom to take shots, but he does want his star to be more efficient. "I'm made a conscious effort with him not to judge every shot because I don't think he plays particularly well unless he has complete freedom," Van Gundy said. "Yet, we have to have more efficient play by everyone on offense to play well enough to win." theSAGE
Good call by the voters. However, it's a shame JVG was voted that high though cause he's not a top ten coach in this league.
