That's a big part of it. I'd love to be able to travel over there and spend five years in London with my wife. We just need to figure out how much my possible job would pay, how much her schooling is (and how we'd pay for that) and what she could do for part-time jobs. A good friend of one of her bridesmaids is over there now at the same school, so that's good.

As of 1993, the pubs closed at 11:00. But clubs stayed open as long as they wanted. The problem was clubs required a cover charge.

I went to school in London for a semester. I can say this: You will tower over most people there. People in London are much smaller than people in Texas.

I haven't been there in 13 years, but if you want to know more specific things, let me know.

I lived there for a year and a half when I was a kid. Not a real big fan of the UK but London is a big city so I am sure you will be ok.

I went back this past summer and I can say two things for sure

1.Enjoy the summer time because the combo of little sunlight and cold rainy days make the winter terrible.

2.The women are huge sluts. I mean the sluts of Europe be carefull/enjoy.

The Repulic of Texas Embassy/Mexican food-drinks is in trafalger (sp) square whe you get home sick

check out the student housing options. There might be something a lot cheaper that will suit your needs.

I went to London in 1999.

I agree with Fatty- I'm 6'1 and I was a giant there. The bouncers at clubs were maybe my size.

Speaking of clubs, they are insane there. My club experience is limited, but I can't imagine that they get much better than London.

Everyone I met was really nice. Not just polite- generally nice. But that was before the Bush administration soured the world on Americans.

I wouldn't say that people were unattractive, but it seemed that people weren't as healty, which I can see how some people would construe as unattractive. I met some really good looking girls there, though.

I can't really speak to the prices because I was on an all-expense paid trip. The only thing that wasn't paid for was lunch, and I did go to McDonalds and remember that food was a little high and that the girl at the counter was named Chun Li. :D

Overall, I loved it and would live there if it were viable. If I did ever live there, I'd go to Ibiza during the holiday season.

Since I have a smokin' hot wife, I'm not too worried about the quality of the talent over there. :)

These two places are actually fairly close to each other, your wife's school is by the Camden Town area, and your work is in central. Using the tube it would take about 10 minutes to get from Camden Town to Liecester Square, which is walking distance to Covent Garden.

Your commute shouldn't be that bad. I would recommend looking for a place around the Golders Green area, it's close to the Northern Line tube which passes both destinations. So both of you guys can take the same tube line and wouldn't need to switch.

As another poster pointed out, there is Texas Embassy, I've been there a couple times, although its "okay" it's nothing to write home about.

Covent Garden is a wonderful area, if that's where your office will be, it's a popular tourist destination. I'm sort of jealous, since I just finished my university here in London and actually looking for a job so I can stay. If not, then I guess its back to Houston for me.

Camden Town is also a popular tourist destination although a lot more rugged, it's where the Camden Town market is, it's also sort of where the punk/rock scene is in London. Quite a few pubs that play live music, Jazz Cafe is also in Camden Town if your into that.

If you have any other questions let me know.

What did you get your degree in? Maybe we're hiring. :)

Thanks for the info. What are the chances of catching Rockets games?

Oh yeah one more thing, London I think is the best place to live if you ever want to travel around Europe and the Mediterranean. You can fly, to Spain or anywhere in Europe, from London for like £1. That's not a typo, I did mean £1. However you still need to pay for airline taxes and such.

If I understand your move correctly, your going to be an international worker and I believe, because of that you may NOT need to pay taxes. You do have to confirm that though as I am not 100% sure.

London is expensive, but I think the positives outweigh the negatives. It would be a great experience for you and your wife.

I've lived here for about two years now and I don't regret it one bit.

I got an (Hons) Bus Mgmt. Before going back to university, I was a web developer for several years until I got tired of programming and wanted to get into business hehehe.

As for Rockets games, this is the only advice I can give you, make sure you have fast internet because you'll be watching it online or downloading it from Rocket2k's torrents. :(

The games start here around 130-230 AM, so yeah it sucks, but hey were Rockets fans so its the sacrifice we have to make.

    RM,

That sounds like a great time for you guys.

One thing to remember is that the exchange rate is about 2 to 1.....it takes 2 dollars to equal one pound.

So, make sure you get a good wage over there, and realize that driving in London is bad, but parking is atrocious.

I have a good friend who lives in Fulham and he has to park his car on the street like 2 or 3 blocks away from his house.

There is a lot of great culture in London, lots to see, and you are only a one to two hour plane ride from all kinds of great countries, like Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece etc..etc..etc.....

Find a place that is close to the underground for you and your wife to get to work and school.....and get used to good beer and watching a different kind of football.

Good luck, it sounds like fun.

    DD
