what's wrong with cake walk to the finals? I wish Deron shut down because of the headache, Ak47 went crazy and quit and Boozer shot too much causing sore arms. Geez, this is the Utah Jazzhole we are talking about. Wait till Thursady, see if you still say the same thing. Nobody gives us sympathy when Yao and Tmac went down. Spurs won the ring just by playing half of the games, it's notheless still a ring.
it was obvious that deron williams was faking. no one stays down that long and then just plays full speed a few seconds after getting up. plus look at how battier reacted. williams was the one who initiated contact and still battier immediately got up and contested the call. look at hockey and soccer, they boo like crazy when they think someone is faking an injury.
I don't think so. Football players all the time get the snot knocked out of them but come back strong. Some boxers even hit the matt and bounce back. I really don't think he was faking at all, luckily neither player broke anything.
I understand what you mean about the booing and all that. The timing was bad. But.. The BULL$#@! chant was about the call. Nothing more. MAYBE some people thought he was faking it and joined in, I don't know... but the reason it started was the fact that both players had a right to go for the ball, but as usual, tie goes to the opponents where rockets are concerned, or so it so often seems. I heard the boos, and didn't really know what it was folks were booing, save for maybe Jazz's reputation for "drama" being used to get calls/symphathy. I didn't join in, and turned to a guy behind me who was discussing the boo'ers and said "I'm not booing anyone, but if he goes right back in after all this I will be more upset about the call than I am now" or something to that extent. He said "Exactly". So... maybe there were more boo'ers by the guy who's now embarassed to be a houston fan, or by the mics, but when dude got up, all I heard was applause.... of course, then he went right back in the game... which pissed me off. Anyway, I think too much is being made of it. Bad call... boos... dilemma among the crowd how to feel about it, some chants initiate... but all in all, I think everyone was just pissed that A) they got the call and B) a Jazz player acted like he was experiencing a season ending injury, then hops up and goes right back in the lineup. Key factor... Jazz player. Their playoff history of flopping on one end and playing dirty on the other made this situation ... different. I don't think it would have happened like that for any other team... but alsto don't think it was as bad as has been portrayed here. Maybe I am wrong, but that's how it seemed from 410. I'm still proud to be a Houston Fan, and was clapping when he got up, even though I knew he was going right back in. As someone said before, any place has some bad apples, and also emotions were running high, obviously.
Williams seemed to get to the ball earlier and Battier was just making a play. It seemed liek a correct play. He isnt seriously hurt, but easily looked like he woulda had a concussion or something bad. Good he didnt. It was unnecessary to start the Utah Sucks chant when he was lying there shaking. And no, it wasnt for a bit it was for a minute or two. I can understand how they are saying that is pretty messed up.
Hm.... can I safely say that for once, we have an interesting debate going on here... aka whether it is alright to boo or be 'classless' when an opposing player is down on the floor with a potential injury? This debate beats the Yao v Tracy debate anyday
Apparently some think that Battier = Headhunting Free Safety and Williams = Defenseless Wide Receiver. To say that Battier was going after Williams(as the official who made the call explained it) is WAAAAAAY off. Neither player saw the other, which is why the collision happened. Tough play to be sure, but the ball went out of bounds off of the Rockets at the Jazz's end of the floor. Should have been a no-call, Jazz ball.
I agree we were in Sect 410 - the Rocket fans in sect 409 were chanting "Utah sucks" I never ever want to see any player on any team suffer injury. Sport is about fun- not pain. We clapped when Deron got up.
Again, the boos were for the call... so far as I saw. Apparently some jackass was heard on the broadcast taunting Dwil while he was down. This is just pathetic, and makes us all look bad, when really most people were just ticked about the call, and perhaps some thought he, a jazz player, was milking it (looked like a bad collision, but not like he stayed out). No one wanted dood hurt... and the MAJORITY of the arena applauded his return to his feet. Jazz fans are having a field day with this one... their thread is so irate, half of them think Battier got the call (foul on deron) [JazzFans.com] Discussion of Battier/Williams Collision
what the heck is going on here? i type www.clutchfans.net into my browser and i keep reading all these threads with people showing sympathy for f***ing utah jazz-holes. is this a joke? its the damn playoffs against our all-time most hated and bitter rival. we havent advanced past round 1 in 10 years and last time we did, it was none other than the b*stard-jazz who knocked us out and denied us our destiny of facing the bulls in the finals. they are coached by a crotchety dirty cheap shot whiney punk who coaches his players to go out and intentionally hurt opposing players. but here we have people saying that rockets fans are classless when they boo williams and what should have been a non-call? and in another thread people are saying that we shouldnt make fun of andrea cry-a-linko? "oh, gosh, i hope he is ok!" - give me a break! ITS THE JAZZ AND ITS THE PLAYOFFS! would i cheer if nash went down - no - because he plays the right way on a classy team. would i cheer if duncan went down - no - because he plays the right way on a classy team. would i cheer when a dirty-jazz hole goes down? - YOU BET I WOULD!!! I HATE THE JAZZ SO MUCH - I WANT TO DESTROY THEM - GRRRR
Eh, Duncan is a whiner, but thats about it. I would have no problems if someone cheered Ginoboli's injury though.
For what it's worth, this play was on "Making The Call with Ronnie Nunn" on NBATV tonight and he said it was the correct call. I turned on the TV just in time to hear that much, but not the explanation.
