Yeah, Yao sucks. Scoring 25+ points is sub-par. Plus keeping the other center to less than 5 points sucks as well. Only having 3 players on the other team score above double digits is unacceptable in a playoff game between two equal contenders is simply uncalled for. Plus logical reasoning and taking an open factorization of game elements is ridiculous. Ridiculous I say!
Being 7'6 , it's a chore to just labour that humongus frame around. maybe he just dosent have the stamina to dunk on every position. it's not like he is soft. oh and dont even get me started on the notion that becaue yao dosent dunk enough , it somehow equates to him being a softie.
I see what folks are talking about. I felt that Yao definitely still dominates, but he does show hesitance when he is asked to be aggressive. I think he just doesn't want to get hurt. If Yao tumbles down, it can be risky, so he tries to lay it up more often than dunk. He is sitll carrying this team and his turnaround jumper has been sick. Other than that, credit goes to Chuck Hayes as a difference maker in today's game!
Precisely. There have been several times during the season where Yao chose to lay it up resulting in a blocked shot where a fierce dunk would have ended in two points and a possible foul. That being said, he's still a helluva competitor.
I may be wrong, but I believe why Yao doesn't dunk much is due to his height. Perhaps the biggest concern for incredibly tall players like Yao is injury issue for their lower bodies: knees, ankles, etc. Yao's a finesse player who rarely elevates for anything. It keeps him healthy not to put so much stress from exploding to the basket necessary for dunks in traffic.
who says he has to dunk and take it in every single possession? He gets a couple of opportunities every game for an easy basket, why not just make sure those baskets count by dunking the ball? He doesn't have to go and dunk the ball every possession but damn it when the opportunity arises make sure the basket counts!
Let's be honest... Neither Tracy NOR Yao has yet to have a particularly dominant game... Our field goal percentage is atrocious... We are winning games due to 1) low turnovers 2) efficient rebounding and 3) free throws. We can sweep the Jazz this way, but can we pull off a win in the second round against Phallas without a dominating performance by our bigs? I think not...
He's just been passive these two games, I don't know why but I had visions of Yao absolutely destroying Utah's creampuff in Okur. Instead, he's settling for jump shots and fadeaways and settling for layups instead of dunks. He's shooting the ball OK for the most part, but it's just his overall aggression that I am worried about. I still wonder if there is something physically bothering him. If not, then it's all in his head. That being said, even without our two stars playing efficiently from the field, we still took care of homecourt, which is all that matters for now. Next task: we must win one of the games at Utah. I believe we will because not only are we a better team, IMO, but also because I believe that the guys now will have that enormous pressure on them to protect the homecourt lifted and you will start saying those shots drop for them. I think guys like Luther and Rafer are thinking too hard and not just catching and shooting like they're accustomed to doing, I think they will perform a bit better on the road. Ditto for T-Mac and Yao. But I just hope that we don't relent and relax and hope the Jazz just lay down for us. These next two games will tell me a LOT about he character of this team.
My man kaiser, i see you're points and i believe you have some valid beef here. but i tend take yao's physical limitations into account.
Sigh, I started a POSITIVE thread on the progression of Yao and it turns into Yao doesn't dunk enough and Tracy can't shoot.
He hould be able to do much better. I think Rockets just are way too nervous. They shoot below their average. Since we are 2:0, next game will be definitely better.
Yao played a very solid game. Not a great game but this game showed that the Rox can still win even without unbelievable performances out of their stars. I only saw the second half but it looked Utah was playing pretty good D on Yao denying him position yet he still scored 27 points. T-Mac had an off shooting night and he still scored 31. Boozer played phenomenally and the Rox still won. This was a good all around victory for the team.
I won't call 27 and 28 points as passive. The best thing about T-mac and Yao today is none of them has TOs. If Rox can keep the TOs down, grabbing the rebounds, they will win against most teams. They might have a low FG percentage, but I am sure their FG percentage will be higher than that of the opponents or they will score more than their opponents. That's what matters.
guys, Jazz fans are complaining right now that it was the officiating that killed them tonight, not the Rox http://www.jazzfanz.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=22285
