moestavern19: Wasn't my first post. Get your facts straight. You don't play people like that? Seriously, why is MJ upset at the Warriors 1) Warriors are upset at MJ for sitting out at the end of last season when he could have come back. MJ wanted to protect his value in the free agent market 2) MJ wanted to play the free agent game, look for BIG money and LONG contract after only playing like what 50 games? 3) Warriors got burned by such stalwarts as Jason Caffey, a one hit wonder, that guy got a contract and dissapeared. 4) Warriors won't guarantee playing time to MJ, won't make him a starter and don't want to give him 6+ mil a year he was asking. In my mind Jackson is the b****. He was the one making unreasonable demands. The only reason you guys are so hollier than though is because you really need anyone in the frontcourt.
The guy that gets dunked on by Dudley, and couldn't get a rebound if he was playing against a team full of Mugsy Bogues clones. This guy is going to play minutes for this team. I feel sick. Dunked on by Dudley? Umm, there was a pick and roll, and Collier had to cover Stoudamire on the dribble... might want to learn some basketball. I feel sick wondering how you can claim to be a fan and be so stupid on basketball.
I don't see any problem with matching, I just think that it was immensely disrespectfull to let him hang all summer without even talking to him to explain how they intended to deal with the situation. Then, once the deal came down, the waited to the last possible minute to even mention what was going to happen. The guy was in Houston! He believed that he was going to be a Rocket. In essence, their valuation of the situation was that the very small gains which they would reap, were much greater than the very large amount of anoyance and discomfort to Jackson. This would prove to me as a player that they had absolutely no concern or respect for players when they didn't have to. The Warrirors played hardball. If I was Jackson, that's how I'd treat the Warrirors in return. For instance, if I were him, after 90 days I would reject any trade that was anything less than completely and totaly to my likeing. The reasoning would be that if they care about what is best for them, even at great expense to me, I'll treat them with the same respect (or lack thereof). Same thing with playing with even minor injuries. I say, "Gotta care about what's best for me, cause they sure don't care a bit." I'm sure he doesn't have any qualms about his teammates. They are probably great. It's management that screwed him. Can you Warriors fans understand how good we felt about our team when we found out that after the team decided that they wouldn't have a spot for Matt Bullard, they went out and found a job for him, even though someone could have gotten injured in training camp, giving him a job? If I were one of the other Rockets, I'd see the respect for Bull, and deduce that if I push a little extra for the Rockets, they'll take care of me later. If I were Larry Hughes, I'd see what the Warriors did and think, "If they're wrong about this PG thing, they'll use poor production as an excuse to ream me next contract negotiation. Better put up the points!" It's not what they did to him, but how they did it.
Why complain guys... He's not coming so lets just go on... I'm thinking we'll get someone else for a year, maybe Gatling... I wouldn't mind adding a scoring veteran for a season til Mo-T gets back next season.... I'm not sure if he's still available... Who else is available guys???
I see this as the problem. You should treat him as a person, not a 'barganing chip'. If you think he's asking for too much, or being lazy, tell him why. I'm not trying to be rude, I just think that this type of attitude was the same attitude that made the Clippers such a bad place to play for so many years. Would Mark Cuban ever call any of his players a 'barganing chip'? Is that the kind of attitude that engenders loyalty from employees?
So Mark Jackson wanted to treat the warriors the same way. "Thanks for the PT and for drafting me, sorry I didn't want to come back and help the team when I was healthy so I could protect my FA status." "Why won't you just let me be happy and go where I want to go." Waaaaaah. It goes both ways. Mark Cuban is worth billions and doesn't run his franchise as a business, so that is a bad example. Warriors are at the bottom of the totem pole as far as financing. Cohan, the owner is worth maybe 200 mil, so he can't afford to let something go for nothing, he has to protect his assets. All this warm fuzzy stuff about Mark Jacksons wishes and what makes him happy are all well and good, but at the end of the day he gets over 4 mil a year, after only playing 1/2 a season in the NBA. No offense, but what the hell does he have to complain about?
Well, GS definitely showed they don't have much tact when dealing with their players which is why they will forever be doomed to be nothing more than a mediocre NBA franchise. I'm not complaining that they matched the offer, Jackson seems to be a solid player who came somewhat cheaply. They didn't want to lose him and get nothing in return which is reasonable. It was a good "talent" move but he definitely would have more of an impact with the Rockets than with GS because of their glut of average big men. I'm actually kind of glad that the Rockets are not stuck with that 6 year contract despite the fact he was a perfect fit to help us out this year and possibly in future years.
Options options options, it's the way of the NBA now. Golden State is a bunch of punks for not picking up the option earlier. Thanks for wasting our time, dorks.
Amazing! The Warriors keep a big man they don't need, and are stuck with him until mid-January. The guy doesn't want to be there, and the other big men can't be traded. They're stuck with Jackson's SIX YEAR contract, all the while talking about chemistry and wanting to trim down the cap. The Warriors and their fans complained about his lack of defense, well get ready to enjoy it for 6 years. Nobody is going to take a chance on Fortson and his balky foot, or Dampier and his monsterous contract. So now juggling minutes is going to be horrible, and you have to trade value. The luxury tax is coming. Congrulations Warriors fans, you forced a guy who didn't want to play for you to stay, and you're stuck another long term contract! You must be proud!
Listen, you may not like it, but you have to deal with it, people don't like Golden State. There's a reason you haven't gotten anybody outside of Danny Fortson. And now you're forcing guys to stay there against their will. All the while you were whining about his defense, his work ethic, his attitude, and management was jerking him around all summer long. But hey, if you want another longterm contract stacked onto other longterm contracts that you're trying to move be my guest!
I'm sure GSW is fine... they'll have Howard Eisley or some such person by January... and Marc Jackson will gladly agree to go to the Knicks. Well at least Cato is playing decently... well, let me check the boxscores for tonight's game.
I guess we can just chalk it up to a difference of philosophy. Just to be fair, I though it was entirely wrong for Rockets management to call out Hakeem for being a jake back in 91 or so, even though he might have been. I just don't agree with that type of management style, especially for skilled workers. Basketball players are like doctors, in that substituting one for another can result in a great dropoffs in performance. It just seems so much like the food 'service industry model' of employee relations, where everyone is just another body. Who knows, you may be right. I guess we'll see in a few years.
The Rockets looked great in Oregon...If not Jackson then Ike in the #3 Center spot. We lost Jackson but win in so many other ways--- like: TMo, Rice, Torres, and we still haven't seen Grif yet. You lose one but gain in so many other ways. The Rockets play like a TEAM, that can beat most of the other NBA franchises by just showing up!!.......Sorry Marc, I hope you have a great career.
Whats a trip is he has right to first refusal on trades. So he could stick it to them and refuse all trades until next yr. What if they get a good offer and he says to the hell with you. Its amazing a guy like st jean could get fired by the kings and move up the ladder by gs. No wonder they now have the longest none playoff tender
warriorsworld: Jackson is not the biatch! St. jean is the biatch! He's the Western Conference version of Jerry Krause. As long as he's in charge, the Warriors will never get any decent free agents! You don't think that other players around the league gonna see this and wonder. If they had GS on their wish list (highly unlikely), they will definitely cross them off now. You, Swopa, and all the other Warrior fans should be as pissed as we are because your team is f***ed and will be for years to come & you can thank your great GM, St. Jean for that.
The other example I can think of is that it seems like the 'Jerry Krause' model of employee relations, as opposed to the 'Phil Jackson' model. Even though Rodman was a much greater punk than MJax, Phil still treated him as a man. Even though it's not entirely fair, now that the Krause-Jackson team has broken up, I think it's pretty obvious which part of the team has gone on to success and which hasn't.
