BTW: Don't count on Mason. He is very likely going to end up in Milwaukee because they have a $4.5 million exemption and we have less than that. Mason has said he wants more than $4.5 million so we definitely won't get him for less.

We probably will just stand pat and go with Cato and Collier.

I would be very surprised if they matched the offer with the intent to keep him and work him into the rotation. He'll be on another team by the trading deadline and GS will get something in return.. as opposed to nothing.

Maybe Gatling is one step closer to his lifetime dream of playing for all 29 NBA franchises? ;)

What really bothers me about this is that the Rockets will be forced to give the big slug Collier minutes. The guy that gets dunked on by Dudley, and couldn't get a rebound if he was playing against a team full of Mugsy Bogues clones. This guy is going to play minutes for this team. I feel sick.

Even so, that's 90 days of supreme chemistry crap. And they will have to play him because they won't get any offers if they don't put him on the floor. Also, he'll still be the best center on the team.

No matter what you say, it is a bush league move by St. Jean and the Warriors. Not only do you bring in a player who doesn't want to be there just because you don't want to look stupid by letting him go, but they also have to decide when and how to trade him (by the way, he gets to pick where he wants to go for up to a year) and IF they can after the 90 days is over.

This reflects poorly on GS because players don't say "They should let me go" and get kept anyway on teams that have a good reputation.

If I were Jackson, I'd feel seriously abused by the Warriors. I would believe that the way they treated this situation could have a really negative effect on their image around the league.

I still think that the Hornets are a classless bunch of @sses based on the way they treated Brad Miller last summer. Objectively, I don't see how you can argue that this wasn't a step worse.

As a free agent, my first thought would be not to trust any thing they say. They seem to believe that once they have the upper hand on you, they are in the right to not treat you like a human being. Therefore, any time I had the upper hand on them, I'd feel justified in trying to screw them.

I really don't think I'm seeing this through the tainted vision of a fan. I really believe that this could come back to haunt them. I see the Hornets and the Warriors as the team equivelent of lazy @sses like Dereck Coleman. Really.

The warriors never cease to amaze. They are cursed to introduce yet higher levels of assanine decision-making with every passing season.

I gotta say, if I was running a team, I'd like to keep the player that doesn't want to play for me at all, especially if 've already got a bunch of guys who play his position.

Its genius I tell you, pure genius.

Actually, if you read the quotes, Jackson refers to his GS teammates very positively. And Jamison and Hughes were quoted earlier as saying they hoped Jackson would be brought back.

So the only chemistry problem is going to be with Jackson being potentially unhappy with his minutes -- but that's going to happen with some player(s) anyway. Every coach has to deal with that issue.

I think it is a good move on GS part. He can not be traded for a year though, I think.

Maybe we can get one of their other forwards for Walt, who is that rebounder they have that is always hurt?

I realize you guys are dissapointed losing MJ, but seriously, you expect a franchise to let a player that has value go for nothing?

    Get a clue.

I don't care if he wants to stay or not, he needs to come into camp and play. The Warriors drafted him in the second round, and brought him into camp and gave him lots of Playing Time.

So as far as I am concerned he owes the Warriors.

All this talk about "He doesn't want to be there," "Let him be happy" is just a steaming pile of crap.

If the Warriors had let him go for nothing, you would probably be sitting here, laughing and going, damn, those dumb Warriors let him go for nothing.

Rockets sign Maxwell; trade for Pippen, Rhodes
    By JONATHAN FEIGEN
    Copyright 2001 Houston Chronicle

Stymied in their efforts to sign Golden State's Marc Jackson, the Rockets tonight executed a series of transactions that will return forwards Scottie Pippen and Rodrick Rhodes to the Houston fold. The Rockets also signed former Rockets guard Vernon Maxwell. "I know none of these guys wants to play for us, but bygones are bygones," said Rockets General Manager Carroll Dawson. "The important thing is that somebody's got to pay them, and it might as well be us."

Restricted free agency is the biggest pile of crap rule in the NBA.

The Warriors played Jackson because they had no one better, they didn't do it out of the goodness of their hearts because they have such a great abiding respect for Jackson's character.

They paid Jackson for one year of service, he played for them, relationship over - this restricted free agency is nonsense. It goes against the very core of what free agency is.

Yea and St. Jean needs to get a clue. You don't bring back someone who said that they don't want to play there. It reminds me of false imprisonment. Look at the Bulls...you think anybody good will ever sign with them after what they did to John Starks?
Same thing will happen to the Warriors. All you warrior trolls except Swopa can gloat all you want. Your team will be around the bottom of the league for years to come and you can thank that f***er St. Jean for that!

Where am I gloating? I am simply making a point that it is bad business to give up something for nothing. The rockets should have talked to the Warriors about a sign and trade, or a deal for draft pics to make sure they got MJ. Since they didn't I must assume they didn't want him that badly.

You guys are obviously upset and not using your heads to look at the situation from the Warriors point of view. Business is business. It is all about the money, for teams that are capped out, which is almost every team in the league, what are the real choices for players to get paid? What players are in a position to get a huge contract?

Warriors did 'Exactly' what they should have done. They let the market set the value of Jackson, who until the Rockets needed him would have been any lower. Then they made a decision on his value to them. Now that they know what he is worth, and that other teams may have expressed interest in him, they can deal.

I am happy, I don't care if we keep him, I just care that he is a bargaining chip we can use to make our team better.

warriorsworld: you don't do people that way. That would be like Carroll Dawson keeping Scottie Quitten after what he said. St. Jean will reap what he sows..I guarantee it.
