Warriors: Want a theory on why the Warriors aren't expected to match the Rockets' offer for Marc Jackson? According to the Contra Costa Times, there are whispers that Jackson, among others, rested a little longer than necessary with injuries last season. Things will change this year. "There's an integrity to the game," GM Garry St. Jean said. "There's an integrity to the franchise and there's an integrity within the basketball players, coaches and management. And there's a respect that's earned -- earned -- and that will be communicated by [coach] Dave [Cowens] and by myself. We can learn from the past, which hasn't been very positive. Each year, it's a new season and each team creates its own identity. It's time now we talk about accountability and responsibility." This is from ESPN Insider i hope its true kinda?
Spin it, Gary!!! Translated: "Every since Sprewell choked that ass Carlisemo, Bay Area fans think we are soft on guys, so I brought in an even bigger ass in Cowens to make sure the fans think we crack down on guys who really just don't want to play hurt. Plus, we want to give them a good excuse why Jackson isn't coming back."
They are not trying to fool Jackson. THEY ARE TRYING TO FOOL THEMSELVES. Cowens is notorious for letting guys walk all over him, actually, it is SO weird that they are giving Jackson such a hard time. Do they have someone who has done better at that position? No. Have fun Antawn. What a bunch of garbage spin -- they are doing the Warriror-esque thing to do by letting him walk, and they know they are repeating their own cycle. Can't spin that, folks, enjoy your days with Foyle and Dampier. That team sucks, I can't believe I live near them CBFC
http://www.bayarea.com/c/category/s...riors/docs/contracostatimes/warz_20011014.htm Here is the link to the entire article which gives a better perspective. It kinda provides a subtle hint as to why the GSW is taking all the time allowed. They sticking it to him as much as they can, even floating those rumors of trade to get him all anxious. It is also consistent with how they treated him all summer. If they really wanted him they would not have waited all summer long. They also got people like Seattle who were interested to back off. I am sure Seattle will be looking at Jax to see what a mistake they made.
If you read the article cited by "Insider" (and helpfully linked above), it just talks generally about injuries and makes NO connection to -- or even mention of -- the Warriors' plans to match or not match the Jackson offer. So that's Chad Ford's spin, not Garry St. Jean's. I think the main concern of GS management is making sure that, after two years of being slammed by multiple injuries, the players don't say "Oh, no, here we go again" and throw in the towel after the first guy turns an ankle. That's a valid worry whether Jackson is brought back or not. And BTW, I think it's reasonably clear by now that the Warriors won't match the offer unless Dampier, Fortson, Foyle, or Murphy gets hurt seriously before the deadline.
Wouldn't it be ironic, if the day after their opportunity to match the Rocket's offer expires, one of their big men goes down? They may think that they've acted in the best interests of the club, but imo they've definitely damaged their future dealings with FA's. If, unlike what has been reported, they had at least communicated with Jackson during this ordeal, then they would be okay. Hanging a man out to dry like they've done, isn't cool. At least we know of one team where Jackson will be totally focused, everytime we play them.
Which is exactly why GS is as pathetic as they are and why the Rockets have the good reputation they do around the league. I don't know if any of you saw the halftime special on Rice but he said that players all over the league want to play in Houston because of the reputation of the team and the coach.
You're completely right, Jeff. I remember reading Jayson William's book Loose Balls when he commented that everyone wants to play for Rudy.
The Golden State Warriors are treating Marc Jackson like the b*stard child and it's going to come back to haunt them. Players talk, and this is going to get around the league. And even if Golden State had money to sign free agents the "money talks" excuse of getting a player doesn't mean anything, or Chicago and the Clippers until recently would be sucking up all of the available free agent. The Warriors are doing a pretty good job of killing their reputation, making a young, ROY candidate hang all summer, and when a team gets interested in him trying to keep him out of training camp and screw him up. It's just all around bush league crap like this that has the Chicago Bulls being the Siberia of the NBA. Remember when Krause kept John Starks until after the deadline for teams picking up players for the playoff run that way he couldn't join a title contender, all because he played for the Knicks against the Bulls? Now the Bulls are screwed. The Warriors are traveling down that same path.
Would all of you like a little cheese with that whine? Geez. Let me see if I've got your arguments right: 1. The Warriors have alienated future generations of FAs to whom they might make offers ... because they didn't make an offer to a particular FA this year. Uhh ... OK, yeah, sure. Guess the Chicago parallel is that the Warriors aren't showing enough gratitude for the championships Jackson brought to Golden State. 2. The Warriors are doing a horrible disservice to both Jackson and the Rockets by not waiving the 15-day waiting period mandated by the CBA. Can any of you geniuses check the online CBA and quote me the clause that allows the Warriors to do this? 'Cause I can't find one. The agreement says the offer sheet becomes an official contract after 15 days if the current team doesn't match, and that's all. Face it, you guys are just a bunch of whiny b****es. Get over it!
I agree with Swopa, were the Rockets any better when they used all of their time available to decide whether to okay the Rice deal?
When you're a bad team, it starts at the top. The Warriors have made very bad personnel moves in the past 10 yrs. Not only trading Webber, Sprewell and Googs, but they drafted guys like Todd Fuller, Adonal Foyle, and stuff like that. Thats not the end to the bad dealing, look now. They want to resign Hughes, but they drafted Richardson. They want to keep fortson, but they drafted Murphy. They have too many young players at the same position so no one has time to develop, thus equaling a 19 win season. The way the west is stacked again, they might not equal that. The Rockets do have an excellant reputation around the league for being a first class organization, and that goes a long ways. With all the capspace they have had, the bulls still can only get marginal free agents to come play for them. Why? Because players think they ran off the greatest player of all time for no reason. Jordan would have stayed as long as he had a chance to win. So what you don't get a chance to rebuild, whats the hurry? Rebuilding is not fun, winning is. Who knows, that team could have won maybe 1 or 2 more titles, but Krause wanted to show he was more important than Mike, which is wrong. As you look at the Bulls, they are rebuilding again for the 2nd time in 3yrs. He can have the Ron Mercers and Eddie Robinsons, but unless Curry and Chandler become the franchise players they think, they'll be sorry for a long time, because of management.
First of all, Swopa, we should meet up and say hey at a Warriors game sometime. Second of all: Chris Webber Penny Hardaway Vince Carter Latrell Sprewell Chucky Brown Tom Gugliotta Tim Hardaway etc. Mark Jackson is about to get added to that notorious list. cbfc
Uhh ... OK, yeah, sure. Guess the Chicago parallel is that the Warriors aren't showing enough gratitude for the championships Jackson brought to Golden State. Actually that isn't the problem. The problem is that the Bulls claimed organizations win championship, lowballed their players outside of Michael Jordan, and are now isolated from the rest of the NBA. There's a reason the Warriors have lost so many superstars. Yeah it's a different organization, but they still have the same look. Doesn't matter though bad kharma will catch up with the Warriors, just like it has for the better part of 15 years.
The Rocket's treated Hakeem and Anderson with respect when they left. Rudy praised both of them for their play as Rockets. They also got more money and playing time. Rice showed up with a cast. Glenn always killed the Rockets when he played against us but the jury's is still out until we see him play. Les might of worked the system alittle but I bet Glenn is the happiest he's been in years. For Marc Jackson: If the Warriers keep him at the last minute, why the drama. If they let him go, why the drama. If they trade and keep him--OK--show him some respect. If an athlete doesn't think he's worth the money or he's lazy. trade him to the Clippers. If you don't respect the athlete get out of the business or let him go..
Can this thread be closed? There's no point in talking about something that is not going to happen. Damn
