    (from the Chronicle)

Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley call him to the bus with shouts of "Andelay! Andelay!"

"They don't know that's Mexican," Torres said. "Not Venezuelan."

Just because Mexico and Venezuela are both Spanish speaking countries, it doesn't mean that the language is identical. And besides, it is not spelled andelay.

For instance, the spanish they use in Spain is quite different from the spanish they use in Mexico.

He probably meant that it was a Mexican expresssion.

Thank you for the language lesson.

    Let us have our fun......

...and for your info. I took 4 years of "Mexican" in high school and college, and speak it fairly fluently.

    :D

Maybe he's referring to Mexican Spanish vs. Venezuelan Spanish... or is there such thing as "Venezuelan Spanish". Or maybe his translator bloopered. I'm sure the man knows what he's speaking in his own country. :)

Since you enjoyed my language lesson so much, allow me to continue.

Spanish is the main language of Venezuela. However, Venezuelan Spanish differs in pronounciation from the Spanish spoken in Spain. There are also some variations in vocabulary. Venezuelans call their language castellano.

Besides Spanish, there are over 30 native Indian languages, of which several have common origins. In more remote areas, some Indians still only speak their own language and have no knowledge of Spanish.

And for your info, I have an equivalent amount of education in Spanish. Speaking it fluently is another thing. :)

I didn't mean to ruin the party, but I had to stick up for Cyld... er... Oscar.

He's just spelling it phonetically to emphasize the exagerated Mexican accent...

    ;)

Dont mess with Oscar, he was just joking, not recriminating them. And by the way, what he meant as rock said is that the expression "andale" is used by a mexican cartoon, but is not used in venezuela. There are hundreds of variations within the same spanish language between countries if you didn't know.I talk "colombian spanish" and sometimes I dont understand what a venezuelan says, and venezuela is just right by the side of Colombia.

The worst thing that could happen with Oscar would be if he is amazing this season, so we sign him to a huge contract....

and then we get a pathetic number of homers and 50-something less RBIs the next season.

Sorry. I'm still angry with another certain Venezuelan.
