Could imagine if we got any of these calibur players in the draft to go with the team we got know it turn us into an instant championship calibur team. Look what happened to S.A. when they finally got Ginobili and Parker in the starting rotation, they took out the Lakers and won 2 of the next 3 titles. Some of these lowly totted players have become not bad to all-star players who could help a team get to the next level. Our management should treat the draft much better than it has, and don't get a Van Gundy type player, we should get a player that can make our team much better than it is. All-Time Players and retired veterens that were drafted late in 1st and beyond Dennis Rodman 2nd, 27th pick Mark Price – 2nd, 25th pick Drazen Petrovic – 3rd, 60th pick John Stockton – 1st, 16th pick Mark Jackson – 1st, 18th pick Joe Dumars – 1st , 18th pick Nick Van Exel - 37 pick, 2nd (1993) Bruce Bowen - Not Drafted Ben Wallace - Not drafted Rick Fox - 1st, 24th pick Robert Pack Cedric Ceballos - 2nd, 48th pick Antonio Davis Shawn Kemp - 1st, 17th pick B.J. Armstrong Rod Strickland – 1st, 19th pick Anthony Mason – 3rd, 53 pick Vernon Maxwell – 2nd , 47 pick Reggie Lewis – 1st, 22 pick Jeff Hornacek – 2nd, 47 pick Hot Rod Williams – 2nd , 45th pick Bill Laimbeer – 4th, 65th pick Dennis Johnson (Supersonics/Celtics) – 2nd , 29th pick Cliff Robinson - 2nd, 9th pick
josh mcroberts. maybe thaddeus young... though I doubt he's that great of a sf/pf tiago splitter if he falls... jason smith... but I would prefer not. glen davis.... marco bellinelli if he falls... trade up for acie law? sun yue if he comes in I would love to trade up for yi... doubtful though. we could get the chinese government to threaten teams into letting him fall to us! hasheem thabeet would do well with mutumbo already here. though that's a long term pick. I think josh mcroberts would be ideal. he's a great passer and has a good basketball IQ. would work well in our system. good rebounder too. freak athlete.
Three starter small forwards? Let's see. That puts T-Mc back at SG where he has to work really hard, Rashard at SF and Battier at PF, which didn't work during the season. It's a decent thought, but we need a true PF and/or a PG from this draft / off season. Much as I'd love to have Rashard -- a defensive liability -- we'd probably need to give up Battier. That I would do for Rashard. He should have been a Rocket from Day 1.
Yeah, they are somewhat interchangable. That's the beauty of it. Battier on the best offensive player and Rashard on the worst. You can run Hayes out there of you need a bit more D and use Rashard to dump in points with the 2nd units. Rashard can play PF very effectively against the majority of teams in this league. There are very few teams that run two big low post guys anymore and if they do, then they are at a huge disadvantage agaisngt our offensive lineup with Rashard and Battier hanging out on the perimeter.
How about sean williams. Heard hes a headcase but he can block shots and hes a decent rebounder. Ratliff is what they say but i think hes more of a taller very poor mans ben wallace. But he can defend and block shots.
Personally, since he is a local, I'd give him a shot but only if we can acquire him inexpensively, i.e. a future second rounder, cash or even a late future first rounder (20 or worse) in conjunction with some sort of productivity clauses.
does anybody realize sean williams will never play for us? jvg is the coach. head case equals bench. just look at bonzi.
Before next draft, rockets management and coaches needs to be very clear as to were or how VSpan fits into the team. Personally speaking I feel he has enormous amount of talent to be the starting caliber PG of the team on a long term if given the chance. If they decide VSpan fits into their plan then PG is not a need position for the team and they really need to search for legit size athletic PF (6'10 - 7') who can give then consistent rebounding, scoring and sound defense they sorely lack in side the paint. Rockets also need one more consistent scorer on their team who can give them legit 15 - 18 points a game. It wouldn't be a bad idea to package draft picks and few players to get some veteran who can be consistent third scorer on the team. Let's face it Van Gundy doesn't like to play rookies for year or two and I think draft pick can be better utilized in package deal similar to last year. I think this will be the best solutions for the team knowing the management and Van Gundy personality.
VSpan has a long way to go. IMO the Rockets should go for the best player available. It's going to be very hard to get a tall, athletic PF who can overcome our short comings as well as a good PG. Trading upwards is not a bad idea as long as we can get a really good player who could fit into the team quickly but our trading assets are limited. Yao and T-Mac will obviously be staying. Battier and Head are the only guys we can use to move up in the draft along with the pick.
imo these are the players on the block with at the least some value: snyder, jho, sura, lucas. deke or jake could figure in some s&t deal as well.
I would be surprised if he declared this year, the draft is so strong and he could greatly improve his positioning next year by being more aggressive on the offensive end this season.
If the Ohio State PG (Clayton?) declares as expected, and does not hire an agent and the Rockets draft him...... He could still go back to school and the Rockets retain his rights, correct? DD
No from my understanding is that he has to pull out of the draft like 10 days (June 18) before the draft for him to go back to school.
I think they have some value in a sign and trade for a player like Mike James but possibly not to move up in the draft.
Either the NCAA or the NBA doesn't allow this. Conley is the guy, and I think he will be the 1st PG taken, top 10 pick.
This is B. Nachbar's stats in the Nets-Raptors game just finished: Min FG 3Pt FT Off Reb Ast TO Stl Blk PF Pts 28 5-11 2-4 4-4 1 5 4 0 0 0 0 16 It doesnot matter whom we draft, is JVG doing a good job developing them?
uhhhhhh...no. He has never raised any talent on his teams, except for maybe Yao being lone exception (but that is kinda of push). In New York, most of those players where already on that team from the days of Pat Riley or brought in as free agents by the gm (Camby, Johnson, Sprewell, and Houston). He didn't lot of say, because this was the Knicks he was in full control, like he is in Houston. He just isn't going to spend time developing rookies or international imports. He doesn't play to their strengths, but insteads tries to make them something that their not.
We need a capable backup point guard, but the FA market is probably a better choice to fill that need given JVG's coaching habbit and reluctance to play a rookie. In that case, I wouldn't be mind drafting a prospect overseas and leave him there for a couple of years to develop.
There is a deadline for underaged players to withdraw from the draft. If he doesn't do that by that date, he's automatically in the draft and forfeits the opportunity to go back to school again.
Haven't read anything in the thread, but I want a point guard. There have been some good ones, and I'm not sure if we could get a good one, but we should definitely try to get someone to help Rafer out. I like Rafer, but I'd also love a point who could make jumpers and create by himself.
