Yeah, honestly - I think the first thing a gun ban would do woudl be to take guns out of the hands like people such as yourself. I don't mean this to be hurtful, but I'd feel a lot safer if guys such as yourself - who know so much about guns and pride themselves of the pictures of their guns - as down-right scary and the exact time of people who should never be allowed to have one.

Really, civilians should not be allowed to have anything but a gun for hunting and killing of wild animals. Non-lethal devices such as stun guns, or rock salt guns - are suffiecient for home defense.

Anyone carry a firearm in public areas shoudl be arrested and put behind bars. That's just insane to me - why on earth would anyone carry a gun around with them to bars, parks, etc unless they had some complex.

As a technical point, I've heard several times that this is the worst mass murder at a school & suicide in US History. That is not correct. The worst would be The Bath School Disaster, when a very angry man set off three massive bombs in a school house and killed 45, and then blew himself and his wife up.

Killing of wild animals...we agree on that.

I especially carry my gun to the park, because I'm at the park with my children.
Can't legally carry gun into a bar...51% rule.

As far as a complex, if protecting my family is a complex, then yes, I have a bad complex.

Thankfully we don't make laws and restrict people in this country based on how these people make us feel. Using your logic we should have institutionalized the harassment of all middle eastern people after 9/11, because lots of people felt scared or suspicious, and we could just go out and make it illegal to engage in homosexual acts, since lots of people feel uncomfortable with that.

I appreciate the contrarian point of view. Why stop the "analogy" at middle easterners?

These gun evangelists are being prosecuted like Jews in concentration camps by the way you sound.

How is bringing a gun to a family picnic in the park protecting them? Against what? Ants?

People are dying from guns in this country at an alarming rate. We're up there with the drug countries and lawless parts of the world. We play for the second amendment in the blood of innocent people everyday.

You want a gun to protect yourself from people with guns, and yet you support the right of those people who may be a threat to you to have a gun.

You support the right for the guys who murder masses in outrage to have guns. You're supporting them. You help allow them to buy guns legally. It doesn't matter who dies - you will still support thier right to buy a gun and go crazy and shoot up some innocent people - all so you can carry a gun to the park and feel like a man.

Listen cowboy, this isn't the wild wild west. Having a gun makes you the threat. Now we all have to think twice about you going off if you have a bad day - because guess what - people have bad days, and they get pushed, and sometimes they do things they wouldn't otherwise - like pull out a gun in an argument - or if someone calls them a name, or if they are threatned by a stick when they can easily walk away.

Why should I have to trust you or my kids to be in the same park with you knowing you have a gun? I don't trust you. I shouldn't ahve to. Anyone who takes a gun into a family park is insane in my book. Who are you going to shoot - someone who went crazy and got a gun easily because you oppose gun control?????

I support a full out ban on guns. It worked in NYC - the lowest murder rate in the country. Look at Houston, close to the murder capital of America. Who would have thunk it - a liberal city with tight gun control being safer than the home of cowboy bush and his gun-slinging ways.

Why don't you tell us all your NRA badge id number?

You like to proclaim yourslef the ultimate contrarian on this forum as if you were providing some sort of service, yet your terrible misuse of logic completely undermines your purported goal.

First of all, since you want to call me a cowboy, I'll just call you a sheep, because that is EXACTLY what you are.

NYC has the lowest murder rate inthe country? My little town in the RGV had 1 murder last year.

You can think I'm crazy all you want, but remember that I will still be carrying my gun, and I couldn't care less how comfortable you are because the fact is you won't know I'm carrying it. Sleep well knowing that there are people out there that carry. Just because YOU can't fathom someone being able to be in control of their emotions when having a bad day doesn't mean I can't.

BTW sheepboy. I'm not a member of NRA.

If we just ban guns, they'll all go away. Look at how well it worked in Mexico.

When the facts aren't on your side, feel free to resort to fear-mongering.

I know I am not gonna convince the people who want to carry guns. Just want you to know, don't go about talk about facts and logic because you are fooling yourselves. You use the facts that are convenient for you and ignore others.

    1) You can't compare the US with Mexico or S. America countries. They are not quite lawless but the criminal elements, the drug lords are rampant there. If you want to compare, compare the US with European countries, Australia or advanced Asian countries where the goverment are more in control.

    2) Law abiding people like yourselves, the people in the NRA, are not wrong. You can carry guns if you are licensed, have no criminal records ... but the rights you want for yourselves also accord the possession of firearms to peolple who should not have them.
This guy from Virginia Tech is one guy who would most likely have a hard time to obtain guns if they weren't available legally for him.

    3) People carrying guns claim they help prevent crime? Give me some facts. How many people are carrying guns these days? How many crimes they have helped to stop? How many accidents they have caused? How many crimes have been committed ? How many people have been shot?

You guys don't cause the crime but you help create an evironment where crime festers. An enviroment where it's hard for the police to do their job. Think about that and think if those 32 peolple could have had a better fate otherwise.

In Breaking News, Bread can be linked to crime.

    !!! BREAD IS DANGEROUS !!!

    Research on bread indicates that:

    1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread users.
    2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming households score below average on standardized tests.
    3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years; infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever, and influenza ravaged whole nations.

    4. More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread.
    5. Bread is made from a substance called "dough." It has been proven that as little as one pound of dough can be used to suffocate a mouse. The average American eats more bread than that in one month!

    6. Primitive tribal societies that have no bread exhibit a low incidence of cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and osteoporosis.
    7. Bread has been proven to be addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water to eat begged for bread after as little as two days.
    8. Bread is often a "gateway" food item, leading the user to "harder" items such as butter, jelly, peanut butter, and even cold cuts.
    9. Bread has been proven to absorb water. Since the human body is more than 90 percent water, it follows that eating bread could lead to your body being taken over by this absorptive food product, turning you into a soggy, gooey bread-pudding person.

    10. Newborn babies can choke on bread.
    11. Bread is baked at temperatures as high as 400 degrees Fahrenheit! That kind of heat can kill an adult in less than one minute.
    12. Most American bread eaters are utterly unable to distinguish between significant scientific fact and meaningless statistical babbling.

In light of these frightening statistics, it has been proposed that the following bread restrictions be made:

    1. No sale of bread to minors.
    2. A nationwide "Just Say No To Toast" campaign, complete celebrity TV spots and bumper stickers.
    3. A 300 percent federal tax on all bread to pay for all the societal ills we might associate with bread.
    4. No animal or human images, nor any primary colors (which may appeal to children) may be used to promote bread usage.
    5. The establishment of "Bread-free" zones around schools.

I'm not going to deny that most CHL classes teach respsonsible gun ownership and use but even with a good CHL class I doubt you get enough training in pistol tactics and also in threat assessment and avoidance. As you noted earlier guns are a tool but they are a very lethal tool. While most gun owners are very responsible there still is that percentage that isn't and even the most responsible gun owners might overreact or not be able to use their weapons effectively.

I don't deny at all that is the case but there is another problem with making gun ownership more widely available that that means people who aren't as responsible have more access to firearms. As with this case the Cho apparently got his guns legally. If guns are easier to obtain while more responsible people might get guns so might another Cho.

Awesome nice post. (I like any post where the person does not insult me which is rare in this thread)

About 250K people carrying in Texas. No stats on how many crimes they have stopped. It simply isn't reported unless there is a death. ALL gun accidents accounted for 776 deaths last year. Thats not just people carrying, and there are some "accidental" deaths listed as so even though proof shows suicide to ease the family pain. We showed all the stats for people carrying and that their crime is much lower than normal public.

It sure would be nice if you stopped guessing and assuming and started asking or looking up facts. And I know you are a ninja but seriously how many 90 pound women could take a 200 pound guy? If a large percentage can why are there so many rapes.

...And many drunk drivers that kill others also got their cars legally. And many that used knives to kill got them legally, and many arsonists that killed innocent people got their gas legally, and many stranglers got their rope legally...
