Dwight Howard!? Are you kidding me!??? Dwight isn't even in the same class as Yao... Don't mention him in the same breath as Yao or especially Duncan.

He is one of THE most overrated players in the NBA, and this further proves it to me.

probably (finally) the best looking mvp rankings of the season.

even though he probably wont win mvp, it's nice he's being recognized again as a top 5 player in the league.

You're right, Yao is head and shoulders above Dwight, but when it comes to All-NBA teams, an important aspect of that is GP. Not a lot of people are going to be awarding Yao 1st or even 2nd just based on that injury. Sucks really.

But Dwight...I actually kinda like him. 12.3 REBS per game don't just come out of thin air, and 17.7 PPG on 60.3% FG is a good stat too, regardless of how he gets them. I can see him popping up in 3rd or even maybe 2nd All-NBA teams imo.

did you watch him playing after wade was injured and heat basically was in danger of missing playoffs? shaq is still incredible when he has the team to carry. don't look at the data, it can fool you.

well, as a 22-year-old kid dwight howard is great, so great. did you check his rebounds per game? did you check his field goal percentage? his numbers are just what you can expect from a CENTER.

exactly, sure he doesn't dominate the double teams anymore, but he still demands it. thats why he still doesn't take that many shot attempts even when wade was out.

plus when he does shoot, he shoots 59%.

Wow, lots of Rockets talk today. Another mention of the Rox on Pardon the Interruption (PTI) in just a few minutes.

I really wish that wasn't said by Skip Bayless. He's one of the dumbest sports personalities there is in my opinion.

    Totally correct.

Totally wrong. Amare is average without Nash. Dwight plays in a weaker conference and his team achieves nothing.

Though Yao's been more or less the de-facto top Center productivity-wise in the game this season, no one who watches the games can argue that Shaq still has more impact on the game than Yao.

    Consider this:

When a double team comes Yao's way, what does he do? Most times I've seen this, he struggles against it. Not saying he doesn't pass out, but he has to get his bearings, and then try to force the pass out.

Now, when teams try to double Shaq, here's what happens: Shaq will almost IMMEDIATELY kick it out to a shooter. Sometimes, he doesn't even make any move after he gets the ball. He simply sits there and keeps the ball away, waiting for the double to come. Because he knows they WILL come. And when it doesn't, he goes to work with a 59% shooting percentage.

One other thing, every time Shaq makes his move, there's a significant chance of him drawing a foul. Rail on his freethrows all you want, but this much is clear: Shaq causes havoc for the defensive team, because you HAVE to double him, or he'll make the shot 2 out of 3 times, and when you do, he knows who and how to kick it out to. And when he does go to work, you're pretty much at the mercy of his 325 pound frame. He draws fouls, he draws fouls and gets the bucket, or he puts up a 59% shot.

Yao has terrific touch for a big man; he WILL get his numbers and score on you, and block shots at the other end. But right now, he just doesn't cause the same havoc for the defense as Shaq does. You can't fault him for that, he's just not that kind of physical player.

Based on that alone, it's hard to argue with choosing Shaq over Yao in terms of all-NBA teams. Of course, if Yao played a mostly healthy season, then it's another matter. But since both have missed significant games with injuries, most purists will still go with Shaq's impact on the game over Yao's ease in getting his numbers.

EXACTLY! In a COUPLE of games.

Not all season, shaq shouldn't be anywhere near the top in the MVP candidates.

Totally wrong. Amare was already a very impressive player even before Nash joined the SUNS. Amare was the Rookie of the Year in his first season, Nash was not even in SUNS then.

dont sleep on the eastern conference big men, they arent as big of a joke as they once were...
although the 2 o'neals are fading (jermaine and shaq) ...dwight howard, chris bosh, and al jefferson could very possibly be claim 2 out of the 3 All-NBA squads for the next few years ...after yao claims first team ;)
