Big men jerseys have never been popular because most people can't relate to being over 7 feet. People can relate to Iverson. He's short for a basketball player and play with energy all the time. Another factor is that the perimeter game is aesthetically more pleasing. There is reason why the two biggest sillouettes in NBA history are of perimeter guys.

People relate to the non-7 footer, but they tend to buy jerseys of guys who can do windmill dunks and jump from the free throw line. so that throws the 'relate' to them argument out the door.

That's probably the main reason. Kids tend to favor players they can sort of identify with.

Also - I wonder if if the jerseys sold count only reflects NBA apparell. There might be a lot CHINA - YAO #13's out there in China.

Didn't you guys hear Yao on Jimmy Kimmel??

Kimmel: Why is T-mac selling more jerseys than you?
Yao: Because they all have mine already.

    :)

Yao already explained why this happens.

Everyone in China already has his Jersey.

Maybe they all already own a Yao jersey. Really. I mean, if you go out to buy a jersery, and you already own a Yao one, are you going to buy another? No. You're going to buy a Kobe, TMac, or Lebron jersey.

Have never worn a pro-team jersey, or a pair of athlete endorsed shoes. I go to the game all the time, but just could't picture myself wear a jersey with someone else's name & number on it.

I do wear my Illini Jerseys, though ;)

I wonder how much they sell these jerseys for. If it's a direct dollar->yuan conversion rate, that would make it VERY pricey when taking into account the standard of living in China.

Basically I am not interested in any one's jersey.
I like bball rather than like those players.
I like Rockets' game because the good execution of strategy and the play made by TMac.

Yao's jersey is sold for $180 on NAB official website.

    $180 = ¥1492.16 ( based on today's exchange rate )

¥1492.16 = 5 pairs of CONVERSE Chuck Taylor all star
4 weeks rent for a decent bedroom
3 bottles of Christian Dior perfume ( 50 ML)
    2 Ipod shuffles (1G)
    1 Nokia 3230 cellphone
0.5 month's wage for a IT rookie came out from the uni

    yup! It's definitely PRICEY
